CTERA delivers automated cloud backup for AWS users
In the dash to move systems to the cloud many organizations neglect the need to safely backup their information.
Secure file services specialist CTERA Networks is addressing this problem for Amazon cloud users by making its Cloud Server Data Protection Platform available on the AWS Marketplace.
It allows organizations to back up any number of Windows and Linux Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances hosted on AWS, and to use AWS as a backup target for applications running on any cloud or object storage-based solution.
It addresses both the architectural and operational considerations for protecting cloud-based data with a wide range of APIs to enable in-cloud backup and file-level and application backup. With new support for AWS CloudFormation deployment templates, CTERA Cloud Server Data Protection enables AWS Marketplace customers to be up and running in just a few clicks, removing the hassle of deploying complex traditional data center backup solutions to protect cloud instances.
"The enterprise data protection game is changing as organizations increasingly embrace the cloud as part of their production and protection strategies," says Jason Buffington, principal analyst focused on data protection at ESG. "Organizations of all sizes are seeking better ways to safeguard the workloads and data residing within cloud-based services, as well as for endpoints and ROBOs that have historically been problematic to protect. CTERA's approach around a cost-effective, secure and scalable solution for in-cloud and cross-cloud data protection makes them one to watch as organizations continue to improve their data protection across an increasingly diverse and distributed workplace."
The CTERA platform provides enterprises with full flexibility and control of their data and data security, globally deduplicating and compressing backups at source for efficient, network-optimized data protection in an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud, across AWS Availability Zones, and even across cloud providers. It can also intelligently place backup data on Amazon S3-Standard Infrequent Access tier (Standard -- IA) storage to reduce costs.
