Apple battles Wordle with new Emoji Game

Newspapers have long been associated with all manner of games and puzzles, including crosswords, sudoku and so on. This is something that has endured the crossover from print to digital, with the likes of Wordle from the New York Times remaining incredibly popular.
Now Apple is looking to get in on the action, announcing a new puzzle called Emoji Game. The puzzler is just the latest addition to the Apple News+ collection, giving subscribers a new challenge every day.
Spotify is killing Heardle after less than a year

There can be few internet users who are not aware of Wordle, the outrageously popular word-guessing game that is now owned by the New York Times. The game has a huge number of fans all over the world, and it has served as inspiration for many derivatives.
One such Wordle-inspired game is one for music fans, developed by Spotify. Bursting onto the scene in the middle of 2022, the music-guessing game Heardle earned itself an eager following. But disappointment is on the horizon; Spotify has announced that Heardle is closing down.
Wordle finally offers to sync your game stats between devices

Word-guessing game Wordle took the world by storm, so it was little surprise when it was snapped up by a big name -- the New York Times. There were promises that the game would not be changed and that it would remain free, and players raised a collective eyebrow skeptically.
Anyone playing the game in the last few days will probably have noticed something. While the NYT is not going back on the promises it made, players are being encouraged to create a New York Times account. The carrot being dangled as an incentive is the ability to have game statistics synchronized between devices.
My correct Wordle answer is probably different to yours today

Ever since the New York Times bought Wordle there’s been talk that the game has been made harder. Yesterday, The Verge looked into the claim and found that nothing has changed because the solutions have been preset since the game first launched.
And I’d agree that was the case, except today when I did the popular puzzle game, my correct answer was different from my wife’s correct answer, and it seems most of the world. Why?
New York Times acquires five-letter word game Wordle for seven-figure sum

The days of the viral daily word-guessing game Wordle being free could well be numbered. The New York Times has bought the popular puzzle game for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, adding to its game portfolio.
While there are no immediate changes to the game planned, there are fears that the brainchild of software engineer Josh Wardle may not remain free. A carefully worded announcement about the acquisition gives a strong hint that Wordle gameplay may be tweaked and that charges could be on the horizon.
