Nokia's new N-series phone comes to US
On Tuesday, Nokia made its new N78 handset available in North America both in flagship stores and online.
The device made its debut along with Nokia's N96 at 3GSM in Barcelona this year, and was expected to be launched simultaneously in Europe and North America compatible with their respective networks. Reports of the device going on sale in Finland in mid May showed the European market getting just a little head start.
The N78 is a flat-faced candybar with a 1.4" QVGA screen compatible with HSDPA 850/1900 MHz 3.5G networks. It includes Wi-Fi, built-in stereo speakers and standard headphone out, an FM radio as well as transmitter, and features A-GPS which cooperates with the 3.2 megapixel camera for automatic photo geotagging.
Early reviews of the device seem to share complaints about the N78's design. While the ipod-like "navi wheel" is appropriate for S60 and the updated photo browser, the atypical shape of the keys and their layout on the face of the device seem to be a problem for some.
Nokia's latest multimedia N-series device retails for an unsubsidized $560.
