Free Demo Of WAP Browser For Palm PDAs

Palm PDA users with mobile data access are in for
a treat, courtesy of AU-System. The Swedish software house is offering
a WAP (wireless application compliant) browser for free download on
the Web.

The firm says that the software, which was co-developed with Ericsson,
allows most Palm operating system-compatible devices to access almost
any WAP 1.1-compliant Web-based service.

WAP is underlying data protocol that allows
low graphics access to selected Web pages, as well as Internet e-mail,
from a low data bandwidth mobile phone, pager or similar device.

AU-System says that the first release of the software has been
designed to run on Palm IIIx and Palm V series organizers, as well as
compatible devices. In addition, mobile (or fixed) Internet access is
required for connecting to WAP-enabled Web sites and online services.

Anders Cedervall, the firm's executive vice president, said that his
long term goal is to establish AU-System as a major supplier of WAP-
enabling systems and other emerging wireless networking technologies.

Staffan Pehrson, Ericsson's WAP program director, said that the free
public demo of the software for the Palm operating system will help to
make WAP technology more popular.

"This is our purpose in making the Ericsson WAP 1.1 Browser available
at favourable conditions to other manufacturers and AU-System is our
key partner in this process," he said.

The free demo of AU-System and Ericsson's software is functionally
complete and is being offered on an "as is" basis for non-commercial
usage.

The demo WAP browser for Palm OS can be downloaded from
http://www.ausystem.com/WAP. Ericsson is also allowing downloads of
the software from its WAP developers' zone at
http://www.ericsson.com/WAP.
