New Technologies Are Everywhere

The power of a computer in the palm of your hand. not such a new idea these days, as new companies and technologies abound and have lead to the creation of a slew of such devices. Phones can access the Internet and send e-mail, and consumers can buy handheld PCs that do a whole host of functions to make life easier. Two of the major corporations in these separate fields are now teaming up to combine the technologies, giving consumers a whole new breed of smart phone devices.
The new device, which will hit the market in 2002, will feature the Palm operating system combined with Motorola phone technologies to wirelessly connect to desktops, surf the Web, and organize your days and weeks with calendar and planner software.
Thats right, you will now have the ability to make phone calls to your aunt in Phoenix while getting a reminder that you had an appointment with that really important person about that really important thing...
This new combination marks another step in the future of society and interactivity. Personal electronics are getting more and more specific, while at the same time getting smaller and smaller.
It's like those sci-fi movies everyone watched growing up where that guy in 2025 had the really cool phone that had all the functions and then some (name the futuristic flick, they all had 'em). Or that other guy who had the mini-disc video player (Demolition Man) and the really neat car.
This month's Maxim magazine outlines some of the new features you will see in cars of the future, the not-so-distant future at that. One of the new things will be automatic window shading that adjusts the tint of your windows to how bright the sun is. And those really cool shaped cars...they are coming too.
Heads up displays and all sorts of gadgetry from satellite TV to entertain the kids, to direct easy navigation systems are all right around the corner (and if you have enough money you can get them now).
The whole point is that consuemrs love those little gadgets and all the cool new features, and there is something to be said about the amount of innovation we've seen in the last decade. All I know is that when I get older, I wonder what new things my grandchildren will have that I will say "yea, I was around before we had that...and this place was all just a cornfield."
I see it happening already, and I'm still young. If we keep going at the rate we are currently going, this keyboard I'm typing on right now will be a joke in the future, and this monitor I so frequently bug my eyes out on will be a novelty item like the dustbuster in "Back to the Future II."
There are two things I know for sure. One of them is that being young IS the best thing in the world, and the other is that the future will be an exciting place for us, and especially for our kids.
Now I wonder when I can get my hover car...I hate traffic. Oh yea, and where's my little recorder thing so I can remember what it was like to be young when I'm 90 (Strange Days).
