Dransik Beta Testing
A developer of such games as Ultima Online, Ultima 8 and the Crusader series is creating a game of his own... out of his own pocket. Free to play, this multiplayer role-playing game (MPRPG) is quickly gaining popularity throughout the internet. Dubbed 'Dransik,' players must gain experience and formidable weapons to fight enemies and subdue other players.
Players who first enter start out in a small town called 'Jeel,' and must gain experience by killing spiders and bats south of the village. After higher levels are reached, the character will have enough power to travel further into the world of Dransik. 'Good' players have a green name tag, to show that they do not attack other players, or townspeople, while red 'Evil' players have shown just the opposite.
Jason Ely, the senior developer of this game has dedicated much of his time to the development of this rapidly growing RPG. He has proven that you can easily sacrifice 3D graphics for excellent gameplay. Jason began working at Origin in 1993, and is now conducting business elsewhere.
Being a big Dransik fan, I had the opportunity to ask Jason a few questions about the game:
BN: How long has Dransik been in development?
Jason: The current version has been in development for about 6 months. However I have only been able to dedicate a few hours a day to the cause.
BN: What are some aspects of Dransik that haven't been seen in any other game?
Jason: The biggest thing that seperates Dransik from Ultima Online and Everquest is the ability for players to build their own towns and castles, populate them with merchants, peasents and guards. Another aspect of the game that is quite unique is the ability to control your guards, have them follow you into an enemy town and then release them on the population.
BN: What cool features will be in the game when it is complete?
Jason: The coolest feature will be construction and the ability to control your guards in masses. You'll also be able to attack and take over other towns that are owned by players or guilds.
BN: Do you plan to keep the graphics design as simple as it is?
Jason: Yes, if I get a professional artist to create high quality artwork or if I switch to a different perspective then I'll call it by another name all together. Dransik is really meant to be a type of "Ultima 5 Online".
BN: There are already many die hard Dransik fans, myself included, but how many
players do you think will be on at any one time in the future?
Jason: There are over 40 dedicated players with a total of 700 users. So basically 1 out of 10 will spend a great deal of time in the game. We do have the occassional 1 time visitor.
