Apple runs into troubles with MobileMe
After briefly going online this morning, Apple's replacement for .Mac has gone down yet again, with tests showing just about the entire service as unresponsive.
Visitors to the MobileMe site are being redirected to a maintenance page that says the service is "unavailable." Apple says that the transition is taking longer than expected.
"While core services such as desktop mail, iDisk and sync are available, the new MobileMe web applications are not yet online. Thank you for your patience as we complete the upgrade," the site reads.
BetaNews had been attempting to test out the service since about 10:00 am EDT, but found nearly every service to either be unresponsive or partially working at best. At one point, an authorization error was received when logging into the account.
Apple had begun a rollout process on Wednesday evening, however problems started appearing Thursday. While users were able to sign in for a period then, it was unavailable until this morning.
It is unclear at this time whether the two issues may be related. A midday test by BetaNews showed an "HTTP/1.1 Service Unavailable" error when attempting to access me.com, while another attempt returned a "500 Server Error."
12:40 pm EDT July 11, 2008 - It appears as though some functions of MobileMe have returned early this afternoon, although Web access to mail and contacts still appear to be down at this time.
2:05 PM EDT July 11, 2008 - MobileMe is down again, this time showing this message: "New member sign-up is not yet available." BetaNews readers also report that the site gives warning messages to users of Internet Explorer 7, alerting them to possible incompatibilities.
2:30 pm EDT July 11, 2008 - Finally, MobileMe appears up -- for real this time -- with access speeds increasing.
