SUPERAntiSpyware 5: Big changes in a small package

SUPERAntiSpyware 5 has just been released, in what the authors are calling "our most significant update ever". This isn't just marketing hype, either, just about every area of the new build has been enhanced and improved.
This starts with the revamped interface, which no longer hides its functionality behind a host of buttons. Easier access to key features means you can now launch the scan you need in a couple of clicks.
A new Critical Point Scan checks for only the most serious issues, enabling the program to deliver feedback in as little as 20 seconds. A Rescue Scan aims to recover even the most heavily infected systems, and SUPERAntiSpyware's faster core engine should now deliver better performance across the board.
SUPERAntiSpyware's Professional Edition sees enhanced real-time protection, and a more configurable scheduler for better control of scanning and definition updates.
But both the Free and Professional Edition benefit from clearer logs and scanning details, ZIP archive scanning, and a greater ability to repair the damage done by malware. In addition, a 30 percent cut in definition file size makes for faster updates, and while it was always lightweight, the program as a whole now requires even fewer system resources.
Some of this is really just a matter of playing "catch up", as SUPERAntiSpyware hasn't seen a major update in quite some time. There is a lot to like about this release, though, and if you're looking for something to complement your existing security package then SUPERAntiSpyware 5 really should be on your shortlist.
