TeamSpeak 3 adds Android and iOS clients, improves voice quality
TeamSpeak Systems GmbH has released TeamSpeak 3 for Windows, Mac and Linux. This powerful teleconferencing tool is designed to allow users, both home and business, take part in group voice conversations on a large scale.
Version 3.0, which coincides with the release of mobile client apps for both iPhone/iPad and Android, boasts a dedicated 64-bit build for Windows and Linux users for the first time. It's been rebuilt from the ground up in C+++ to improve compatibility and performance, and boasts improved voice quality and latency, 3D sound effects, improved security and privacy and a new feature that allows users to share files during voice chats.
TeamSpeak 3.0 has made major improvements to its voice quality and latency, and features automatic mic adjustment, advanced noise cancellation and echo reduction to help ensure people can be heard clearly. It's also now capable of connecting to multiple TeamSpeak servers at once, allowing people to switch between multiple conversations quickly and easily.
Support for 3D sound makes it possible to place all other chat users on a grid around your central position, making it easier to place people during a conversation. There's also a new Friends/Foes list that allows TeamSpeak users to place unwanted contacts on a Foes list, that can be used to block or ignore them.
Security and privacy have also been tightened due to the creation of a new authentication system that frees TeamSpeak administrators from having to manually assign usernames and passwords to each TeamSpeak server; instead, end users create identities, which can be easily tracked and transferred to new servers.
The new file transfer feature will also prove welcome to those who wish to share files without having to use a separate application to do so. Files can be made generally available, or restricted to specific users on selected channels.
In addition to these changes, the TeamSpeak 3.0 GUI has been completely redesigned to provide a more professional look and improve user-friendliness and navigation. It can also be skinned or customized using stylesheets. Other customizable features include sound packs and plug-ins, which can be used to develop and extend support for new devices such as Logitech's forthcoming G15 keyboard LCD.
The TeamSpeak 3.0 client is available now as a free-for-personal-use download. The 32-bit build works on Windows, Mac and Linux; the 64-bit build is for Windows and Linux only. There are also new clients for iPhone/iPad and Android -- the Android app is currently free, but the iOS app costs $4.99.
