Sony's new SF-G Series features the 'world's fastest' SD cards
Sony today unveils a new line of SD cards aimed at DSLR and mirrorless camera users wanting to capture high-resolution photos and record 4K videos. Called SF-G Series, it has the "world's fastest" SD cards, featuring write speeds of up to 299MB/s.
The SF-G Series currently includes three storage options, namely 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, and is designed to keep data safe and maintain performance over time.
Sony claims that its "unique firmware" helps the buffer clear up faster when using burst mode to capture images, which will come in handy on high-end cameras, and prevents the degradation of write speeds.
All the cards are also said to feature write speeds of up to 300MB/s; the SF-G Series has UHS-II support. There will also be a matching MRW-S1 card reader, with support for USB 3.1 Gen1, to help users transfer files as quickly as possible.
Last but not least there is File Rescue software, which will help users recover files that were previously deleted or are "compromised". It is offered as a free download for customers. The cards are "X-ray proof, waterproof, temperature resistant, and shock-proof."
The SF-G Series of SD cards will be released this spring. There is no word yet on how much they will cost, but given the fact that they are aimed at professionals you can expect this to be reflected in the price.
