G-Technology unveils G-DRIVE USB-C storage drive with up to 10TB capacity for MacBook Pro
The newest MacBook Pro only has USB-C ports. For some, this can be a pain point. For others, it is refreshing to only have the most modern connectors. As time marches on, other manufacturers will likely follow Apple by forgoing USB Type-A entirely too.
Today, G-Technology unveils a beautiful new external storage drive. Called "G-DRIVE USB-C," it is designed for the MacBook and MacBook Pro, but it will work with Windows and Linux too (a Type-A cable is included in the box). The 3.5-inch 5400 RPM drive features speeds up to 195MB/s, is available in capacities up to 10TB, and offers power-delivery so it can charge your Mac too -- how cool is that?
"Available in capacities up to 10TB, the G-DRIVE USB-C device is built to provide expansive capacity for storage of HD videos, photos, music, backups and more in a stylish extruded aluminum enclosure. This G-DRIVE device features the USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface with USB-C connector, which enables high-speed performance with Mac and Windows® PCs of today and tomorrow and also ships with a USB-C to USB-A cable for compatibility with traditional systems with a USB-A connector. With USB Power Delivery, G-Technology’s G-DRIVE USB-C device provides up to 45 watts of charging capability through the USB-C port, so users can charge the latest MacBook or MacBook Pro without the need of a separate charger," says G-Technology.
The Western Digital-owned company further says, "The G-DRIVE USB-C external desktop drive is plug and play on Mac and is Time Machine software ready so you’re able to quickly back up all your files. It can be easily reformatted and is compatible with Windows PCs. Included inside the box is the drive, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, and compatibility with computers featuring a Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 interface."
While the 10TB variant is a bit pricey at $449.95, you can save some green by opting for the lesser capacity drives. The 4TB model costs $199.95, while the 8TB version costs $349.95. While not available today, the drives can be had later this quarter.
