Massive BlackBerry outage hits Europe, Middle East, Africa, beyond
BlackBerry services such as email, Web browsing, and BBM instant messaging have been knocked out of commission for most of Monday in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and even extending into parts of India.
The outage began around 10am Central European Time (approximately 6am Eastern) and Research in Motion did not acknowledge the problem until some four hours later.
Investors flee as RIM burns
As if Research in Motion's co-CEOs haven't done enough, shareholders inflicted serious pain overnight and early today. RIM shares plummeted, following yesterday's dire earnings report -- by about 22 percent in after-hours trading.
RIM opened at $22.89 this morning, off yesterday's close of $29.54. The stock is fairing better in mid-morning trading, well if down nearly 19 percent could be called better. Shares are down 66 percent from their February 52-week high.

BlackBerry phones to gain Android compatibility
In what is likely an effort to stave off any further erosion in market share, RIM is said to be planning to add Android app capability to phones running its new QNX software, according to those close to the company.
The first QNX phones are expected in 2012: RIM's PlayBook was the first to ship with the operating system in April of this year. Adding Android support to QNX-based phones should not be surprising: there is already support in the PlayBook for Android apps.
BlackBerry users, would you pay $5 a month for 50 songs?
It's a strange question given the alternatives, but it must be asked. All Things Digital's Peter Kafka reports $5/month for 50 songs will be the going rate for Research in Motion's rumored BlackBerry Music Service.
You can stop laughing now. Please. Someone will hear.
