Philips DVD Burner to Support Blu-ray

Philips introduced Monday a new computer DVD recorder that will be able to record and play DVDs in the new Blu-ray format. The unit will be on display this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and is expected to be available by the second half of this year.
Blu-ray discs will be able to store up to 50GB of data through the use of a smaller laser.
Philips to Beta Test Hard Drive Audio Player

Philips is seeking 50 volunteers to beta test its first hard drive based portable audio player, a device the company calls a "recording audio jukebox." The HDD100 will pit Philips against Apple's iPod and the NOMAD Zen from Creative. Unlike its competitors however, Philips HDD100 is able to encode new MP3 files on the fly using a built-in microphone.
The sleek HDD100 sports a 15GB hard drive and USB 2.0 for quickly copying songs from a PC. It can play both MP3 and WMA audio files, and has a 5-band equalizer with four settings that can be assigned to each song. For quick access, Philips has included a remote control, along with a scroll wheel for speedy navigation.
Philips Tests Streamium MC-i250

Philips is seeking 50 volunteers to beta test its new Streamium MC-i250 broadband jukebox. Building on its first generation Streamium MC-i200 player, which entered beta testing one year ago, the MC-i250 adds wireless Internet capabilities using 802.11b.
The new Streamium MC-i250 can access a variety of online music, including streaming radio, as well as music stored on networked computers. Users will be able to access premium and free music services offered by MusicMatch, Radio Free Virgin, MP3.com, Yahoo! LAUNCH, Andante, and Live365.
Philips, Nike Beta Test Portable Sports Audio

Philips is looking for 100 active beta testers to trial two new portable digital audio players created for use on the run or in the gym. Designed for wear on the arm, the psa[128max will feature 128MB of built-in memory, while the slightly larger psa[cd8 will utilize 8cm CDs that hold up to 50 songs. Both devices will be released under the Nike brand name and sport no-look buttons and smart wire management.
Continuing to build its digital audio arsenal, Philips adds the portable sports audio devices to its already extensive lineup solid-state, CD and home-based MP3 audio players. FM radio and CD audio players are also on the docket for release under the Nike brand.
Philips to Test Streamium Broadband Jukebox

Philips Audio today unveiled a new addition to its line of uniquely designed digital audio players, the Streamium MC-i 200. The new micro hi-fi system builds upon the larger FW-i1000's Internet connectivity to add full support for streaming audio. The MC-i 200 connects to current Internet radio stations, as well as premium subscription services being rolled out by companies such as MusicNet and Pressplay.
And to kick off the new year, Philips will be selecting 100 beta testers to evaluate the Streamium before it launches later this year.
Philips Readies 8cm eXpanium Beta

Further establishing its dominance as the MP3 hardware king, Philips has announced a new addition to the popular eXpanium lineup. The eXp401 is a smaller incarnation of the portable MP3-CD player, utilizing 8cm disks -- 40% smaller than standard CDs -- that hold 185MB of compressed audio. Philips is looking for 50 beta testers to try out the portable, which is expected to debut late this year.
The eXp401 supports AAC and MP3 audio, and sports a 100-second electronic skip protection. Philips claims 3-hour playback on one AA battery, matching the length of music that can be stored on the 8cm CD. All disk formats are supported, including CDR, CDRW and UDF. A large LCD additionally provides quick navigation through artists and albums.
Beta Test Philips' New MP3 Boombox

Philips is looking for beta testers to try out its latest MP3 offering, the eXpanium AZ1155. This "MP3-CD Soundmachine" features the ability to play any CD you create, a dual color LCD, simplified navigation, and a digital tuner. Applications will be accepted until July 24, whereupon 50 lucky participants will be chosen at random. Testers will be required to use the product for 8 weeks and complete two online questionaires.
The AZ1155 MP3-CD Soundmachine may have been designed to look great, but Philips is also touting the player's sound. According to the company, the Philips "UltraBass2 and acoustically tuned Bass Reflex bodies with great output power will carry your music far and wide." Additionally, because CDs can hold hundreds of MP3s, the boombox has a built-in jog dial for easily browsing music.
Philips Mini Hi-Fi System Beta Test

Philips is currently accepting applications for beta testing of its FW-i1000 Internet Audio enabled shelf system. The new stereo allows you to play music directly or connect to the Internet and listen to Internet Radio. You will also be able to upgrade the software on the system directly through the stereo when updates are available in the future. According to the Web site, the FW-i1000 is capable of "pumping out earth-shaking 240 Watts Total Power. The 3-CD changer plays CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and the wOOx technology patented by Philips guarantees powerful, deep Bass." For more information and to sign up for the beta testing visit Philips. Philips Set-Top Boxes Running MS Software

Reuters is reporting that Philips set-top boxes will be running the new specialized TV software to run its boxes. Philips also made an agreement to develop new products using Microsoft software. Its new box is set to premier sometime in 2001. Microsoft just announced this week that its own version of the set-top box will run a specialized version of Windows Whistler.
Philips eXpanium in Stores

The Philips eXpanium MP3 player has just finished beta testing, and will be available at Circuit City retail stores for consumers beginning on August 20th. This portable MP3 player can play either regular CDs, rewritable CDs, or MP3 CDs all the same.
