Say goodbye to Microsoft Windows 11: Nobara 40 is the Linux-based operating system you need!
Nobara Project, a modified version of Fedora Linux, has officially released its long-awaited version 40. After overcoming numerous challenges, including delays from extensive development requirements such as updates for KDE 6.1.1, GNOME 46, and Nvidia drivers, Nobara 40 has been designed to provide a smoother transition for users switching from Windows 11, improving on the shortcomings of its predecessor's release.
The latest update introduces a fully redesigned “Update System” App, now developed as a Python GUI application, which replaces the older bash script format. This application is better integrated with the Nobara Package Manager, enhancing user experience with a system tray app for update notifications. The package manager itself has been significantly improved, now enabling easier management of flatpaks directly through a more user-friendly GUI, which obviates the need for third-party software stores like KDE Discover or GNOME Software for system packages.
Fedora Linux 39 launches with GNOME 45
Twenty years after the debut of Fedora Core 1, Fedora Project commemorates this milestone with the release of Fedora Linux 39 (available here). This iteration brings forward a suite of enhancements and updates that solidify its stance as a versatile operating system for a multitude of platforms. At the heart of Fedora Workstation 39 is GNOME 45, which promises not only improved performance but a slew of user experience refinements.
GNOME 45 introduces new widgets and a redesigned Image Viewer application, boosting both aesthetics and functionality. The desktop environment has become more informative with a dynamic workspace indicator, giving users a clear view of their virtual desktop landscape. A new camera activity indicator, alongside the pre-existing privacy features, now notifies users when their camera is accessed.
MX Linux 23 is here: Your favorite Debian-based OS gets even better!
MX Linux 23, the latest stable version of the popular operating system, is now available for download. This release is built on the sturdy foundation of Debian 12 “Bookworm” and MX repositories. Just as with previous versions, MX Linux 23 defaults to sysVinit while keeping systemd as an optional choice for installed systems.
One of the most noticeable changes in this release is the revamped live boot menus, featuring a more prominent “check media” function. This new feature offers an automatic media check before proceeding to boot, thus providing a smoother user experience.
