Wyze launches new Window Cam for indoor window-mounted security

Wyze has announced the Wyze Window Cam, a compact camera designed to give users exterior-style security from inside their homes. The camera mounts directly to a window and uses a wide aperture lens and sensors to deliver clear, bright color footage even in low light.

The Window Cam can be used to monitor driveways, gardens or front or back-facing areas. It attaches to the interior side of a window using nylon fastener strips, avoiding the need for tools or permanent fixtures. Wyze bundles a long power cable and clips for any necessary routing.

Wyze Battery Video Doorbell

Wyze expands its smart home lineup with a new battery-powered video doorbell

Wyze has added a new video doorbell to its expanding line of home security devices. The Wyze Battery Video Doorbell enters a market already dominated by products such as Amazon’s ubiquitous Ring range (with its maddening ding-ding-dong chime), but it aims to be a budget wire-free alternative that’s simple to set up while providing a wide, head-to-toe view of the front door area.

The doorbell records in a 1:1 aspect ratio at 1536 x 1536 HD+ resolution, capturing a square frame that covers both visitors and packages placed near the door.

Can Wyze be trusted after recent security incident?

Wyze customers experienced a service disruption last Friday morning due to an outage originating from their partner, Amazon Web Services (AWS). This incident temporarily disabled Wyze devices, preventing users from accessing live camera feeds and event recordings. The company has since apologized for the inconvenience this caused.

During efforts to restore camera functionality, a security issue emerged. Approximately 13,000 Wyze users inadvertently received thumbnails from cameras that were not their own, and 1,504 users interacted with these thumbnails. In some instances, users were able to view event videos from other accounts. Wyze has confirmed that all affected users have been notified and reassured that the majority of accounts remained unaffected.
