Verizon gives unlimited data, text, and talk to people impacted by Hurricane Matthew
Whenever a major tragedy hits, there is an immediate need for communication. Whether it is a natural disaster, terrorism, or some sort of accident, friends and family want to confirm the safety of their loved ones. After 9/11, for instance, it was heartbreaking to see people not know the fate of the missing -- quickly connecting people can quell fears and anxieties.
Cellular phones and other technologies can make communication easier, but running out of data or talk minutes can make it useless. After all, if you can't connect to the internet or make/receive calls, what is the point? Some Verizon customers impacted by Hurricane Matthew will not have to worry about this, however, as the cellular provider is giving them unlimited data, text, and talk at no additional charge.
"Sometimes life throws the unexpected at you, and it could mean using extra data that you weren't planning on needing. Verizon is offering unlimited domestic talk, text and data relief to qualified customers in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina between October 7-11, so you can stay connected when it matters most", says Verizon.
There are some limitations, folks. Unlimited talk time is only for calls made within the USA -- international calls are not eligible. Also, the company is only offering this to "qualified" customers. Unfortunately, the company does not share who exactly is qualified. To verify eligibility, customers should call 1.800.806.3607 which is toll-free. Also, Verizon warns that you will still receive data overage alerts despite the temporary unlimited data.
Roger Tang, President of South East Market, Verizon Wireless explains, "our customers expect an industry-leading network performance, especially when severe weather hits. Thanks to the extensive preparations of our network team, our network has remained strong in the wake of this storm. That strength, when coupled with this offer, means that our customers can stay connected when it matters most."
If you know of a loved one that has been impacted by Hurricane Matthew -- and is a Verizon Wireless customer -- be sure to share the news with them. Not only can this help people stay connected, but it can keep their spirits up too. If they are stuck in a shelter or other place without Wi-Fi, for instance, they can binge-watch Netflix or stream music over cellular without worry. Entertainment matters, as it can take someone's mind off of the tragedy.
