XStreamHD, not....quite....yet
XStreamHD, which offered a promising solution for satellite on-demand high definition video since last year was prepped to make a big announcement today, but something got in the way.
Betanews looked at XStreamHD at last year's CES, showing off its 1080p video and 7.1-channel lossless audio "transport network" for content providers. The main appeal of the service is that it can bring high-quality content to a user on demand without using the internet.
Last October, the company expected to launch its service, but it wasn't until last month that the company even completed trial runs of its Fixed Satellite Service (FSS). The main problem was that the company announced no partners. That's right, no content providers, no service providers, and no CE manufacturers other than Seagate.
How can a content delivery service succeed when there's no content to deliver? That's what XStreamHD was hoping it could announce this morning, but instead, it had to cancel its press conference. We asked XStreamHD's CFO Louis Giordano what happened, and he informed us that the press conference was contingent upon a certain event taking place, which did not.
Though specifics were not given, we were assured it was not bad news, but rather just another hurdle to clear before their big announcement can be made.
