Revamped Google Sites now let anyone create websites for free
Google Sites recently underwent something of a redesign and it was made available to a select group of testers. Now the website building tool is available for everyone to use.
For anyone who has used any of Google's online apps, Sites will be immediately familiar. Like so many web building tools, it eschews HTML in favour of a WYSIWYG interface, meaning that even web novices can get a site up and running easily.
As you would expect from Google, Sites works well with the other tools in G Suite. This means that if you are creating a shared site for work you might want to embed your Google Calendar, but there is also scope for integrating Google Maps and documents created in Google Docs.
Although Google Sites could be used as a tool for creating a personal website, this is not really its primary aim. Rather, this is a collaborative website creation suite that allow several people -- such as employees -- to work on the same site simultaneously. Think of it as Google's own version of WordPress. More changes are promised based on feedback.
