Design interface mockups on your iPhone with Napkin Sketch

Napkin Sketch is a lightweight free design tool for building interface mockups on your iPhone.

The app is all about simplicity. There’s no interactivity here, no huge palette of custom shapes, no export to code or anything even faintly complicated. It’s really just a simple drawing tool, a quick and easy way to present an idea during a meeting or over coffee.

New SDK aims to make protecting mobile apps easier

Illinois-based Zebra Technologies Corporation acquired Motorola Solutions' Enterprise business in late 2014 and is now announcing one of the first fruits of that link up.

Enterprise app development platform RhoMobile -- part of the MSE acquisition -- is launching a new independent software vendor (ISV)-targeted SDK through Digital Defence. Its aim is to make the task of protecting mobile applications more developer-friendly.

Source: Music streaming app MixRadio releasing on Android and iOS 'soon' -- Android beta in testing

Source tells BetaNews that MixRadio -- currently exclusively available on Microsoft’s Windows Phone -- will "soon" make its way to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS mobile platforms. An executive at the music platform -- who asked not to be identified -- didn’t wish to confirm the development at this stage, but noted that the company recently quietly released an Android beta to select testers.

MixRadio offers free music streaming curated in a radio-like way. Available in 31 countries including US, China, and India, the service is estimated to have millions of users -- though the exact numbers have never been disclosed. The on-demand music streaming has been rebranded and restructured a couple of times since its launch in 2007 by Nokia. It was formerly known as OVI Music Store, Nokia Music Store, and also Nokia Music.

HERE iOS Apple iPhone Nokia

HERE launches on iOS

When Nokia announced the availability of HERE on Google Play, it also announced that an iOS version will follow in early 2015. And today's the day when HERE is finally available on Apple's App Store.

Apple's iOS becomes the last of the major mobile platforms to get HERE, following Microsoft's Windows Phone and Google's Android. I've been waiting for this moment since I switched to iPhone 6 Plus from Windows Phone. Sure, there's always Google Maps, but its inability to work as well as HERE without an Internet connection is a major downside for me.

http://youtu.be/MM5yX33mewI

Wiper is a messaging service which offers an interesting privacy and security-centric option. It lets users delete their conversations, on-demand, from the other users' smartphones as well as Wiper's servers. I took a look at what it can do in a previous article, which you can check out here.

Offline

Offline is not just another mobile feature

Every discussion on mobile-first development misses out on one of its most important and least understood characteristics: Mobile apps need to work offline.

The fundamental premise of mobility is that the technology should work everywhere. And that means everywhere. Imagine if you couldn’t access iTunes on the subway, or look up your next meeting on your calendar in an elevator, or a phone number in your contacts while trying to make an urgent call from the road. And forget being able to access anything when you are 15,000 feet in the sky.

Lingui

New tool simplifies translating apps into different languages

Developers put a lot of time and resources into the technical aspects of their apps. But when it comes to selling them in other markets there's often little left for localization.

Now OHT-Mobile, part of One Hour Translation, has a solution with the launch of Lingui, a low-cost way to localize apps quickly without the need for extra manpower, complicated processes or even the requirement to send updates to the App Store or Google Play.

Clean up Android devices with the (ad) free Droid Optimizer

German developer Ashampoo has been producing PC cleanup tools since 1999, but now it's looking a little further. Droid Optimizer is a one-stop app for cleaning, managing and maintaining just about any Android device (2.3+).

There’s plenty of competition around, but Droid Optimizer scores immediately as it’s free, with no visible ads. The only marketing is a "More apps" button which displays some recommendations, but that’s it: leave the button alone and there’s nothing else.

Reply to WhatsApp, Hangouts messages directly from Pushbullet notifications

Pushbullet’s latest Android app update means it’s now possible to reply to messages from WhatsApp, Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Line, directly from your desktop notifications.

There’s no complex tweakery required to make this happen. As long as you’re running Android 4.4 or later (and you have the Android Wear app installed for Hangouts messages), notifications from supported services now have a Reply button: just click it and go.

Dropbox for iOS simplifies file uploading from other apps -- but only for iOS 8 users

Dropbox has unveiled Dropbox for iOS 3.7.0, a major new version of its client for iPhone and iPad. The new release adds a single feature to its roster, one that requires iOS 8 in order to work.

The feature in question is the addition of a new action extension, which allows users to save files straight to their Dropbox storage from within selected other apps without first having to open Dropbox itself.

Sony SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-1

Sony announces SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1, goes up for pre-order today

Smartglasses are tricky. You have people who don't like to wear glasses. Those who do may not like their design. They can also be tiring to wear for extended periods of time, as Google Glass Explorers have confessed. Not to mention that smartglasses are also very expensive. And, at least for the time being, consumers are not taking the plunge, as they appear to be perfectly happy with using just their smartphones.

The lack of consumer interest, and Google recently killing its beloved Glass project, hasn't stopped Japanese maker Sony from coming out with its own pair of smartglasses. They're called SmartEyeglass Developer Edition SED-E1, and they're available for pre-order starting today.
