Newegg, in conjunction with PayPal, is bringing its product listings into AI powered shopping channels, starting with Perplexity. Customers will be able to discover and buy Newegg items from inside conversational search tools that use PayPal’s agentic commerce technology.

The retail giant says the move is in response to growing numbers of people searching for products using AI chat tools rather than performing traditional web searches. Instead of browsing categories or clicking through a store, customers will be able to ask an AI agent for help finding a specific product and be shown Newegg listings in the response.

Perplexity is the latest company to release an AI-powered web browser. Comet is available free of charge for Windows and macOS, and it is looking to compete with the likes of Opera’s Neon.

Comet is not brand new. It launches in July to a limited audience, but now its AI powers are being made available to everyone. But while there is much excitement from Perplexity about the launch, and excitement from users, there is also a warning from security experts.

Chrome has not been put up for sale, but that has not stopped AI startup Perplexity from putting in a bid to buy the web browser from Google.

While on the face of things the $34.5 billion bid seems large, it has been widely dismissed as being a fraction of Chrome’s real value. So, what is the deal with Perplexity trying to snap up the most popular web browser in the world?
