Box adds extra security layer with CipherCloud

You are moving to the cloud, regardless if you want to or not. The world is just headed that way, and Box is one of the frontrunners in this race. To stay in front the company today announces new security measures, using CipherCloud. This is in response to a growing need to prevent malware in this burgeoning market.

Weisen Li of Box, tells us "I’m excited to announce the availability of CipherCloud Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for Box. CipherCloud DLP for Box helps admins apply corporate DLP policies on content in Box while keeping it simple for end users".

The update will scan all content uploaded to Box and provide enforcement actions including alerts, quarantine, block, prevent sharing and other customizable security options. This means that if a user uploads a document which contains restricted data like a social security number, and violates company policy, then the file is automatically moved to a quarantine folder. The user will be notified of the policy action and be prevented from accessing the file until the admin determines that it is safe to share and returns the document back to its original Box folder.

With CipherCloud’s reporting dashboards, admins can view metrics such as top files shared, most active users and user file sharing activity. They will also be able to see policy violations by user or location and over time to spot issues with compliance problems and address governance risks, as well as train users on how to avoid policy violations.

Li tells us that "in addition to DLP, CipherCloud for Box provides behind-the-scenes protection by scanning for malware to block viruses or infected content from being uploaded to Box or spread to other users".

Security is an important concern for any company or individual moving to the cloud. CipherCloud is yet another addition that Box is making in an effort to stay ahead of stiff competition.
