Bing reveals the top global search trends of 2013

We must be edging towards a new year as Bing has just released a roundup of the top search trends for 2013. It seems a bit weird to push out the results before December has even had a chance to make its presence felt, but clearly Bing wanted to get in there first.

The roundup is the result of billions of searches across 12 countries, and the full results can be explored on bingtrends.com. Bing also has blog posts covering results from the different countries.

Naturally, the search service’s biggest focus is on results from the American site, and there’s an accompanying blog post which lists the following search trends:

  • Most searched person of the year -- Beyoncé Knowles (it was Kim Kardashian in 2012)
  • Most searched sports star -- Tim Tebow
  • Most searched sports team -- Dallas Cowboys
  • Most searched musician -- Beyoncé
  • Most searched song -- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis -- Thrift Shop
  • Most searched social media site -- Facebook (Google+ scraped in at 10, behind Vimeo and Vine)
  • Most searched streaming site -- Netflix (YouTube was 4th)
  • Most searched entertainment electronics -- Xbox (PlayStation was 7th -- but it would have been interesting to see how Xbox One and PS4 compared)
  • Most searched app -- Candy Crush

  • Most searched movie -- Iron Man 3
  • Most searched fashion designer -- Victoria Beckham
  • Most searched reality TV star -- Kim Kardashian

Over in the UK, the results were, naturally enough, a bit different:

If you don’t live in either country, or want to know what the rest of the world searches for, you can check out the results for Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and Spain.
