OMG people, I am not wearing an Apple Watch, it's Android Wear, get a clue!

Something has me enraged this week and I don't think it's going to stop any time soon. I can hardly talk about it, as it makes my blood boil. Before I go into it, let me say that I have been wearing a Samsung Gear Live for months now and I love it. I'm not going to lie, I hoped that people would ask me about it when I wore it -- like a conversation starter -- but no one did. I even made sure to use it in a very ostentatious manner, wildly swiping and positioning my arm in such a way that my wrist would display the watch. Nothing. No one said anything.

Then Apple Watch happened. This past Monday, Apple had a proper keynote address for its watch, and the media lapped it up. As a result, Apple Watch was all over the mainstream media. So here is what's making my blood boil -- since that event, every asshole I encounter asks me if I am wearing the Apple Watch. Grrrr. I'm wearing the same smartwatch that I've been wearing for months, people. Get a clue!

At first it was a minor annoyance. The gas station attendant asked me if I was wearing Apple Watch and I politely said no, making it a point to tell him about Android Wear. He gave me a blank stare and went on his way. Whatever, dude. Later that day, while getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts, someone else asked me if it was the Apple watch. Sigh. Again, I explained no, it was Android Wear. They too were not interested in my explanation.

The next day, someone asked me if it was the Apple Watch, and I again said no. However, this time, I didn't explain Android Wear. Instead, I just said it was "Google's version of Apple Watch". This made sense to them, but it pained me to explain it this way, as if Google was copying Apple.

That brings us to today. On two different occasions, people asked me if I was wearing the Apple Watch. You know what I said? Yes. Both times, they asked me how I like it. I said it's great! Yes, I endorsed my non-existent Apple Watch to two strangers. This was far easier. Neither asked me how I achieved ownership early.

There is a big takeaway from this little story. You see, Google has a big awareness problem with Android Wear. The search-giant's smartwatches have a huge lead over Apple Watch, yet the public is far more aware of the fruit-logo company's wearable.

If Google doesn't act soon, Android Wear will become nothing more than "Google's version of Apple Watch". This is a shame too, as Android Wear is immensely useful, enhancing the overall Android experience.
