Deezer now generally available in US

Deezer

Most US consumers may not be familiar with Deezer and for good reason. While it is one of the oldest players in the music streaming industry, having launched nine years ago in France, the service has only been offered alongside some audio products and carrier subscriptions so far.

That is about to change though, as Deezer is now, finally, widely available in US. Just like its main competitors, it can be sampled on all the major platforms, including Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, with customers getting unlimited access to the "world's largest music streaming library", live radio, news, and podcasts.

Deezer has apps available on the Apple App Store, Google Play and Windows Store, and can also be accessed from the web at Deezer.com. The service is offered free of charge to users in the first 30 days, after which they'll have to pay $9.99 a month for the Premium+ plan.

"We’ve already received an overwhelmingly positive response since offering Deezer via our partners Sonos, Bose and Cricket, and now look forward to making our service available to everyone", says Deezer CEO Dr. Hans-Holger Albrecht. The company notes that its service will continue to be available through Cricket Wireless and to Bose and Sonos subscribers.

Deezer's library includes more than 40 million songs and over 40,000 news stories and podcasts, but those that is not the only selling point that the company is hoping will attract US consumers.

There is also Flow, which helps you discover songs based on things like algorithms and contextual info, live radio, which gives users quick access to radio stations and info on the currently playing song, and lyrics, which is self-explanatory.

What Deezer currently fails to offer is a subscription that rivals Google Play's or Apple Music's family plan. Either service gives access to up to six users for $14.99 a month, which is better value than what Deezer offers at this stage. Spotify has this plan too, in case you're wondering.
