Best Windows games of 2016
The games are listed alphabetically. I did not include any major game releases that are out for other platforms as well (think Wasteland 2 Director's Cut, Gears of War 4, or Quantum Project).
This logic / puzzle game is quite interesting. It takes the 2048 game concept, and changes things up by requiring that you place dice showing numbers on the board.
Dice come alone but also in numbers of two. If you place three or more die of the same number next to each other, all but one are removed and the one's number that remains is increased by one.
This puzzle game adds animation to the mix. What this means is that the pieces that are available to you change state as the animation plays.
This makes it difficult on one hand to find the right position for a piece, but may give you clues on the other hand as you may link pieces together more easily.
Asphalt Xtreme is the newest game of Gameloft's popular Asphalt racing series.
The game is beautifully designed with great graphics. It features a variety of car types including rally cars, pickup trucks, muscle cars, or buggies.
You may race against the computer in various leagues and competitions on race tracks around the world, or compete against up to seven human racers in multiplayer matches.
Beefense is an interesting tower defense game in which you control a bee hive's efforts to thwart of other insects attacking the hive.
It features resource collecting, plenty of towers, and a handful of other interesting elements including the need to "man" towers with bees.
An evil spell has been cast on the Magic Kingdom taking away all of its magic. It is the player's task to bring back the magic by lifting the curse with the help of popular Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald and Daisy.
The game is not a "city builder" game even though it shares several mechanics such as resource collection and quests with it.
Instead, it is a light adventure game in which you follow leads and complete quests. While you do build attractions such as Mickey's Fun Wheel at times, it is just one part of the game.
Froggy and the Pesticide is a puzzle game in which you need to collect certain resources by moving Froggy the frog around the map.
You can stick your tongue to elements on the map or double-click to jump in the air.
Gods King is a free action-focused strategy game with role playing elements in which you control a party of up to six characters.
You manage characters, level them up, give them equipment, improve their skills, and control one directly in battle against different types of foes.
This Chinese game is not called Gu, but they are the only two letters that I can read from the game's title.
It is a Rockband-like game in which you play the drums and try to match the beat of the song that is playing. The game is playable with the mouse, but designed for other input devices as you need to hit different drums in rapid succession in later levels.
Mahjong Journey takes the classic game of Mahjong to the next level. While it is still all about matching tiles to beat layouts, it throws in an adventure game that has you complete different layouts one after the other.
It features different challenges, time-based ones for instance, and adds some specials on top of that that help you out in one way or another.
The game plays a bit like the classic swashbuckling game Pirates. You start as a captain of a Sloop and work your way up the foot chain by fighting other ships, increasing your fleet, upgrading ship and captain skills, and more.
