You almost certainly need an SD card for your Nintendo Switch

If you've ordered yourself a Nintendo Switch you had better prepare to crack open your wallet and splash out on an SD card. Nintendo has shared details of the size of the console's digital games, and at least one of them simply won’t fit on the internal storage.

The company reveals that Dragon Quest Heroes I·II weighs in at a sizeable 32 GB -- exactly the same size as the Switch's built in storage, which is already home to the required system files. Other games are big enough to mean that even if you're not interested in Dragon Quest Heroes I·II, an SD card is going to be pretty much essential.

On the Japanese Nintendo website you can find details of the various digital downloads that will be available at launch. The page for Dragon Quest Heroes actually specifies: "A microSD card of 32GB or more is required separately."

The full list of games sizes is, as shared by IGN, as follows:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 13.4 GB
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 7 GB
  • Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! - 1.60 GB
  • Disgaea 5 - 5.92 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris - 1.09 GB
  • I Am Setsuna - 1.40 GB
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I·II - 32 GB
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition - 5 GB

You wouldn't have to purchase many of these announced titles for a card to start filling up, and that is before developers start pushing out further releases. The Nintendo Switch has already faced criticism before launch, and this latest revelation may have pre-orderers wondering if they have made the right decision in purchasing this particular console.
