When the likes of Meta and Microsoft spend billions to kick-start what they see as the next big tech gold rush, it’s worth taking notice. We are, of course, talking about the Metaverse, a prospect so compelling that it prompted Facebook’s corporate rebrand alongside an investment in the region of $10 billion per year.
According to their launch content, the money is going towards the creation of a "hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. Microsoft issues emergency patch after breaking OneDrive with Windows 10 update
Windows 10 users who installed Patch Tuesday updates this month have reported that OneDrive and OneDrive for Business is broken.
The problem relates to the KB5018410 update and others released after it. People affected by the issue report app crashes, being unable to sign out of OneDrive, problems with syncing, and various other symptoms. Microsoft acknowledged the problem fairly quickly and has now issued an emergency fix (the KB5020953 update).

Critical OpenSSL vulnerability severely delays Fedora Linux 37
Fedora 37 was due to be released before the end of October, but if you expected to have the Linux-based operating system by Halloween, you will be very disappointed. You see, due to a critical bug in OpenSSL, the Fedora developers are halting the release until November 15 at the earliest.
The patched version of OpenSSL will come out on November 1, so the developers are targeting November 15 as a realistic date to have Fedora 37 tested and ready to go. Of course, it could end up being even later than that.

Phishing volumes increase over 30 percent with well-known brands as favorite targets
The latest report from email security and threat detection company Vade shows the volume of phishing emails up 31 percent in the last quarter compared to Q2.
Volumes peaked in July (79.2 million), dipping in August (57.5 million), and rebounding in September (67.2 million). If this pace continues through Q4, phishing volumes in the second half of 2022 are set to exceed those reached in the first half (315 million).
