Young people find traditional education inadequate
Today’s youth has a positive view about the future and their role in it. However, many young people believe that traditional education doesn’t do enough to prepare them for their professional life.
These are the results of a recent poll commissioned by consulting firm Infosys.
Australian university to hand out Surface 3 to students
Microsoft is doing its best to push its line of Surface products out there to businesses and students, even getting prominent placement in NFL games (though announcers still sometimes refer to them as iPads). The Surface Pro is on its 4th generation, but for those who don't need quite as much power, there's the Surface 3 which has a smaller screen and isn't as capable, but which costs a fraction of the price of its bigger siblings and still runs Windows 10.
It's perfect for education uses, which is why Western Sydney University in Australia is handing out 5,000 Surface 3 slates to its students.

Microsoft partners with The Linux Foundation for 'Linux on Azure' certification
Linux is not only the future, but the present too. Even if you do not directly use an operating system based on the kernel, there is a good chance that it impacts you every day. Much of your precious internet traffic is routed through servers that run Linux. Many set-top boxes and devices are powered by the kernel and you may not even know it. Of course, Android is one such Linux-based operating system that millions upon millions of people use daily.
With that said, careers in Linux could be ready to explode. Believe it or not, 97 percent of surveyed hiring managers are looking to add Linux professionals, according to the 2015 Linux Jobs Report. Seriously, if you or someone you know has an interest in computers, yet don't know which direction to take in school or career, it is something to explore. While it may not be a good fit for everyone, it is worth your attention -- even Microsoft is hiring Linux professionals nowadays. In fact, today, that company announces a partnership with the The Linux Foundation for a special, Microsoft-issued, Linux on Azure certification.
The Linux Foundation will participate in 'Hour of Code'
Nowadays it can feel like kids are more interested in social media, emojis and video games than math and sciences. Look, I was a kid once, and I know school can feel boring, but knowledge of STEM is important; not only for the children, but for all of society. It is imperative that something is done to motivate students to create and make so the world can continue to advance.
Luckily, there are many initiatives in place to increase interest in STEM. One of the most popular is the 'Hour of Code', which is described as a "one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics". Today, The Linux Foundation announces its support.
Australia's primary schools to teach coding
Australia is preparing for the jobs of the future by having children learn coding and programming at a very young age.
According to a report by Mashable, 21st century computer coding will be taught in primary schools from Year 5, and programming will be taught from Year 7. The curriculum was approved by Education Minister Christopher Pyne in one of his last acts before being sworn in as Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science.

The true cost of coding bootcamps
The coding bootcamp industry is growing rapidly. According to Course Report’s Bootcamp Study, the industry is approaching a market size of $200 million, which is 138 percent growth over the prior year.
At the same time, critics warn about similarities to for-profit colleges, especially regarding "poor performance, exorbitant pricing, and exploitation of vulnerable, low-income students". Though I found my Computer Engineering undergraduate education to be helpful and fundamentally sound, I do not think it adequately prepared me for my first job. A case in point is that I learned as much working at a startup as I did in four years of university education. Based on this experience, it’s really important to me that students of all coding bootcamps get the technical skills and job training they need to achieve their goals.

This can be very true; I often had to do this to make up for my failing grades as a young man.
