Lenovo unveils Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus mid-range phablets

Lenovo Moto G4

Lenovo has taken the wraps off the new Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus at a media event in New Delhi, India. The pair is meant to appeal to phablet enthusiasts, featuring a large display, big battery and competitive specs at a price tag similar to that of the previous generation.

Moto G4 has grown in size compared to Moto G3. For the latest generation, Lenovo has opted for a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1,080 by 1,920, with power coming from a 1.5 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and 3,000 mAh battery. The Plus model, despite what its name implies, is no bigger, but adds some nice extras.

The differences between Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are in the camera, RAM, and sensor departments. The latter gets a 16 MP shooter on the back with an f/2.0 lens and phase-detection autofocus, while the former has make do with a 13 MP sensor. The latter also gets a fingerprint sensor, which is positioned on the front of the device below the on-screen navigation buttons.

Moto G4 Plus' camera is above iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in terms of image quality, according to DxOMark's testing. That is reason enough to opt for it instead of the base Moto G4. Another reason may be the fact that Moto G4 Plus, when paired with 32 GB of internal storage, offers 3 GB of RAM; Moto G4 features 16 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM, a configuration which is also available for Moto G4 Plus.

There is one more difference to note, though not as important. Moto G4 Plus will ship with a TurboPower charger in the box, which enables quick charging, whereas Moto G4 only packs a standard charger. Lenovo quotes up to 24 hours of mixed usage from the battery.

Both Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have a microSD card slot, which lets users expand the storage capacity by up to 128 GB, and a 5 MP camera on the front. Also, both ship with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. They measure 153 x 76.6 x 7.9-9.8 mm and weigh 155 g.

There is no pricing or availability info yet.
