Android to get GPS navigation through Telenav

T-Mobile's G1 will be getting its first full-featured navigation system on February 24 when Telenav releases its GPS Navigator for Android.

First available directly through Telenav's site, the navigation software will hit the Android market shortly thereafter, when it begins offering for-pay apps.

Navigator on the G1 will be nearly identical to the company's offering for BlackBerry, and will provide full-color 3D maps, turn-by-turn directions, live traffic and weather alerts, and over 10 million business listings with reviews and gas prices. It will be available for a free 30 day trial, and then cost $9.99 per month for unlimited use.

Where most other versions of the software include the "call-in address" feature that allows the user to call TeleNav and verbally enter the address, TeleNav Navigator for the G1 is enabled with voice recognition directly on the handset. This allows a user to input her destination's business name or address in a single spoken step. The only other handsets to offer this feature in Telenav Navigator are a select few from AT&T.

A subscription to TeleNav also gives a user the ability to pre-plan trips and receive scheduled e-mail reports on traffic conditions and delays on frequently driven routes, or send addresses to their phone through an IE, Firefox, or Google toolbar.
