Datto launches new ransomware protection for SMBs

Ransomware

We already know that ransomware is a lucrative business for the attackers. But for the victims, especially smaller businesses, it can prove devastating.

A new solution offering enterprise-class ransomware protection for small and mid sized companies is being launched by data protection specialist Datto. In the event of an attack it aims to shorten downtime, save money and reduce the impact to business, giving companies an effective and reliable alternative to paying hackers' ransoms.

The software guards against malicious encryption in the company's Backupify, Datto NAS and Datto Drive offerings, as well as providing ransomware detection within its flagship SIRIS and ALTO business continuity appliances.

With the detection feature on Datto SIRIS and ALTO devices, managed service providers can easily identify a ransomware attack and roll systems back to a point in time before the attack hit. Ransomware, like most illicit software, leaves an identifiable footprint as it takes over a server, PC or laptop. Datto's devices actively monitor backups and can detect a ransomware footprint, instantly notifying admins that they have a ransomware attack on their hands. Recovery is then simply a matter of restoring from a previous backup.

"Our service providers often deal with multiple ransomware incidents per day, and many businesses are forced to pay expensive ransoms or close their doors forever after crippling attacks," says Austin McChord, CEO and founder of Datto. "With the automatic ransomware detection and recovery throughout Datto’s products, we’re giving data control back to customers and empowering our partners to save the day -- the way it should be".

More details on how Datto's products can help protect against ransomware attacks is available on the company's website.
