There's a fix on the way to address OnePlus 3 memory management and color calibration issues
The OnePlus 3 is the first 'flagship killer' that has been available to buy without an invite. Reviews (and we'll have one written up soon) have been overwhelmingly positive, but a couple of issues have surfaced.
Some users have been disappointed to find that their handset does not take full advantage of its 6GB of RAM, while others bemoan poor color calibration of the Optic AMOLED screen. We've already shown you how to manually tweak memory settings, but an official update is on the way to address not only memory and color issues, but also to increase performance of the OnePlus 3.
OnePlus is a company that makes much of the fact that it listens to, and acts upon, user feedback. Just days after launch, company co-founder Carl Pei said that he was taking on board the complaints that were being voiced about the latest handset. Some reviewers have already received a small update to Oxygen OS that fixes some of the niggles.
There's no word yet on when the update will be made available to everyone, but the good news is that the update exists and will be making its way to OnePlus 3 handset in the not-too-distant future.
So what does the fix do? There are three changes to look forward to, First of all, the color calibration has been adjusted so RGB is now an option. This gives far more accurate color reproduction than the NTSC gamut previously offered up.
Secondly, there is far better RAM usage. Just like the manual tweak, the update increases the number of apps that are stored in memory. Early tests show that this currently allows the OnePlus 3 to take advantage of up to 5GB of its available RAM, but this may change before the official release.
Finally, the update is designed to improve app loading times.
We're yet to get our hands on the update, but we'll provide a full report -- along with a complete review -- when we do.
