HP unveils rugged 'ProBook x360 11 Education Edition' Windows 10 convertible laptop
This may be a bit of a generalization, but children are not the most responsible people. Since they don't yet really understand the value of a dollar, they may not appreciate or care for belongings as well as they should. This can be especially true when things are given to them for use at school, such as textbooks, musical instruments, or computers.
HP apparently understands how destructive some kids can be, as the company has created a rugged (MIL-STD 810G) education-focused convertible laptop. The all-new 11.6-inch touch-screen (1366 x 768) ProBook x360 11 Education Edition runs Windows 10, and is designed to take a beating.
"The device switches easily between four modes, and since students are constantly moving around with their computers, the ProBook x360 11 Education Edition is encased in hard, industrial rubber and its screens feature optional damage-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. HP engineers put the computer through its rigorous HP Total Test Process, which involved dropping hundreds of computers from an elevation of 29.5 inches (about the same height as an average school desk). Together with Windows 10, this device is an awesome option for students and teachers", says Microsoft.
The Windows-maker further says, "for teachers, great features are built into Windows 10 such as the “Take a Test” app, which includes simple yet secure features for modern test-taking. The app creates a browser-based, locked-down environment for more secure, online assessments, for tests that shouldn’t have copy/paste privileges, access to files or other distractions. It also includes the 'Set up School PCs' app, so a teacher can set up devices in three easy steps, even with no dedicated IT support".
Features aside, the specifications are fairly decent, but hardly top of the line. There is no Intel Core i processor available, instead only having the option of a Celeron or Pentium. Memory maxes out at 8GB, while the largest storage capacity is 256GB -- thanks to the micro SD card slot, you can expand that, however. For further expandability, it has both USB Type-A and Type-C ports. HP promises the battery can last for up to an impressive 11 hours.
