Another MP3 Search Falls

Nullsoft, Inc., maker of the popular Winamp digital music player, today removed its popular MP3 search engine. The move comes just a day after an article noted the AOL-owned company was remaining aggressive despite recent litigation against sites like MP3Board for linking to illegal MP3s. According to sources, word came from the top to remove the search, which was launched not too long ago on the main Winamp.com page.

Sponsored by Inktomi, Nullsoft's MP3 search became popular due to its reliable download links and non-FTP nature. AOL had the technology lying around and the Nullsoft Team decided to make good use of it with the consent of their parent company.

Reminiscent of the Gnutella fiasco, AOL big-wigs held a meeting today to discuss the impact such a search would have on the company and its planned merger with Time Warner. Obviously, the outcome was not positive and AOL heads demanded the search be shut down.

Nullsoft refused to comment on the matter, however left a note for visitors stating, "Sorry. Search unavailable at this time. Sad, sad Nullsoft."
