Lyft adding 'extra stops'

Ride-sharing apps are all the rage nowadays. It is not hard to see why traditional taxi drivers despise the services -- it is extremely convenient and satisfying to reserve a car with a smartphone app. Standing in the street with your arms flailing in an effort to get a driver's attention is archaic and uncouth.

While Uber is undoubtedly the king of ride-sharing in the USA, its competitor, Lyft, is no slouch. Today, Lyft announces an upcoming new feature that looks rather useful -- 'extra stops'.

"You've got places to go, things to do, and people to see. And sometimes, all of it happens at once. To make these moments easier, we'll soon be introducing the ability to add an extra stop to Lyft rides. Whether you're picking up a friend or a bottle of vino, just add your stop into the app and your route will instantly update -- making it a seamless experience for you and your driver", says Lyft.

The ride-sharing company further says, "plans change. If for any reason you don’t need to make the stop you added, just tap on it and select 'Remove stop'. Think of how an extra stop can add to your day -- maybe it's grabbing a coffee on the way to work or your dry cleaning before going home. We look forward making this available to you".

This feature won't be useful in all scenarios, but I can definitely see the value. Besides the aforementioned coffee and dry-cleaning examples given by Lyft, I can see this being huge for, say, romantic dates. A person wanting to take a man or woman to the movies, for instance, can schedule a stop at that person's home prior to the cinema.

Do you think this is a beneficial feature? Should Uber copy it? Tell me in the comments.
