The tablet market is in the toilet

The second quarter of 2023 has painted a grim picture for tablet shipments, revealing a significant decline. As reported by the International Data Corporation (IDC), worldwide tablet shipments declined a stark 29.9 percent year over year, amounting to just 28.3 million units in total.

The once-prosperous market seems to be gasping for air, with top vendors recording double-digit losses. Attributed to weakened consumer confidence and decreased purchasing power, these negative impacts were further compounded by high channel inventory levels. The silver lining? IDC expects this issue to gradually improve in the coming months.

Cyberattacks and data breaches come it many forms, but often at the root of them is a phishing scam.

Microsoft has already determined that this will cause problems for a fairly lengthy list of apps, including some of its own.

Why'd you have to go and make PAM so complicated?

Cloud maze complexity

Avril Lavigne didn't quite sing that line but she might well have done if she'd worked in IT. More than two-thirds of IT managers (68 percent) say their current privileged access management (PAM) product is too complex or has too many features they don't use.

A new report from Keeper Security also finds that 87 percent of respondents would prefer a pared down form of PAM that is easier to deploy and use.

Google has moved downloads to the toolbar in Chrome -- but you can resist change if you want

Cartoon Chrome logo

As users of Google's web browser will be aware, Chrome has long featured a download bar at the bottom of the app window. While keeping download progress tucked out of the way made sense in some ways, it represented somewhat of a frustrating design inconsistency in moving download-related information away from the main browser controls in the toolbar.

While this is likely to be welcomed by most users, there will be some who prefer things how they used to be. Let's take a look at the new download button and also show you how to revert to the old approach if this is your preference.
