Half a dozen little 2021 predictions about life after COVID-19

Six hundred and seventy-five thousand Americans died of the Spanish Flu in 1918, back when the total population of the United States was 103 million. In the current pandemic, American deaths are already above 540,000 (remember when a projection of 160,000 deaths seemed crazy?) but our population is now 331 million. While COVID-19 will undoubtedly kill more Americans than did the Spanish flu, the percentage of the population dying will be much lower than the 0.65 percent death rate in 1918. But the numbers are close enough that one might guess the long-term impact of this pandemic could be very similar to that one.

I don’t think it will be. I think this pandemic will have greater long-term effects than that of 1918 and the reason comes down mainly to technology.

StarTech.com launches Monitor Riser Stand with Wireless Charging Pad

In an office setting, sometimes you can opt for an elegant desk layout, while other times, you can go the low-class route. For example, I once needed a monitor riser when working at a former employer, but there was no money in the budget for such things. What did I do? I used a ream of printer paper instead. Did it look nice? No, but it got the job done.

With all of that said, I’m a big believer in the benefits of having a classy workstation. Being proud of your work area can boost your confidence and lead to improved productivity. Today, StarTech.com launches a new height-adjustable monitor riser that is both beautiful and special. You see, not only can it increase the height of your computer monitor, but it has an integrated Qi wireless charger for your smartphone too. How cool is that?

The original Microsoft Edge browser wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t finished. Microsoft hasn’t always made the best decisions when it comes to Windows 10 (who can forget the dark days when the software giant 'upgraded' Windows 7 machines to the new OS without user consent), but adopting the Chromium engine for a brand new version of Edge was one of its smartest moves.

The new Chromium browser is a huge improvement, which is just as well as from today Microsoft is stopping supporting its predecessor, now referred to as Edge Legacy.
