A tsunami of dark data is coming -- data that has never been analyzed, tagged, classified, organized, evaluated, used to predict future states, control other processes or has been put up for sale for others to use. So, what do we do with this data? First, we have to understand that exponentially more is coming. We see this in autonomous technology as vehicles generate four thousand gigabytes per day.
Also data is becoming more complex, as most of it is already in in video or other complicated forms. Seemingly free storage is encouraging people to store more and defer deletion.

Microsoft kills off My People, deprecates other Windows 10 features
Microsoft rolls out two feature updates a year for Windows 10, although the latest release, the November 2019 Update (1909) -- out now -- is more of a system pack.
While the software giant adds new features in these releases, it also removes some, and deprecates others. It has updated its list of features that are no longer being developed for one reason or another, and this time around that list includes My People.
Consumers put banks in the frame for holiday shopping fraud
As we head into the peak holiday shopping season, 66 percent of Americans believe they could easily become a victim of fraud, while another 65 percent think they are at a higher risk of having their financial information exposed as a result of their holiday shopping.
A new report from digital risk protection company Terbium Labs also shows that 68 percent would hold their bank at least partly responsible for fraudulent activity, no matter how the compromise occurred.
Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool updated to support new versions
Microsoft published an updated version of the company's .NET Framework Repair Tool this week; the new version supports newer versions of the Microsoft .NET Framework, in particular versions 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2 and 4.8, which older versions did not support.
Administrators may download the latest version of the application from the Microsoft website. The list of supported .Net Framework versions is available on the same page and links are provided to download these to the local system (which is useful when the program is run in offline mode).

Windows 10 will soon refuse to connect to WEP networks

Google Maps gets enhanced translation feature
Traveling internationally can be a very fun experience, but also, it can be quite scary. When you don't speak the local language, you can have anxiety regarding communicating with people when you need help -- such as getting directions. Thankfully, smartphones have made foreign travel much easier thanks to both translation and navigation apps.
Google makes two of the best such solutions -- Google Maps and Google Translate. Today, the search giant is increasing their interoperability. Now, when you tap on a location in Google Maps, the translation software can audibly say what that location is -- in the local language. As an example, you can hop into a taxi and tap on where you want to go (a restaurant, hotel, etc.) and your smartphone will say it audibly in the driver's language so he/she knows where to go. Very cool.
Google teams with Citigroup bank to offer checking accounts from 2020
Google next big venture appears to be banking. According to reports -- including from the Wall Street Journal -- the company is partnering with Citigroup bank and will start to offer checking accounts from next year.
The project is codenamed Cache and it will also see Google teaming up with credit unions to provide banking facilities to people in the US. But with widespread concern about Google's attitude to privacy, is there a market for banking services from the company?
