It is easy to complain about Windows 11; oh, so very, very easy. But while there are many reasons for feeling frustrated at the operating system, there is also cause for hope -- not least of which is that Microsoft appears to be paying heed to feedback from users.

This is evident in the latest beta build of Windows 11 released to Windows Insiders where the company has made important changes to Explorer and Widgets in the taskbar. Explorer improvements sees the return of drag-and-drop functionality to breadcrumbs.

Half of consumers experience AI bias

Although 75 percent of people think chatbots are getting better at managing toxic or inaccurate responses, 50 percent have still experienced bias and 38 percent have seen inaccuracies, according to a new report.

The survey of over 6,300 global consumers, software developers and digital quality testing professionals, carried out for testing and digital quality company Applause, finds 91 percent of respondents have used chatbots to conduct research, and 33 percent of those use them for research daily.

Lenovo expands ThinkSmart portfolio with solutions for smart meeting rooms

Lenovo has announced the expansion of its ThinkSmart portfolio with two new solutions designed to transform meeting spaces into managed video conferencing spaces and Microsoft Teams Rooms. The ThinkSmart Tiny Kit and the ThinkPad Universal USB-C Smart Dock – ThinkSmart Edition aim to facilitate smart collaboration and provide IT managers with enhanced control over meeting spaces.

The ThinkSmart Tiny Kit includes the ThinkCentre M70q Gen 4 compute module and ThinkSmart Controller, enabling a Microsoft Teams meeting experience with a single front-of-room display and external audio/video. The kit is designed to transition from BYOD meeting experiences to a more managed Microsoft Teams Rooms experience. It supports features like one-touch join and Front Row, and customers can add certified peripherals like the ThinkSmart Bar 180 and ThinkSmart Cam to optimize room experiences.

Companies expose 35,000 sensitive SaaS assets each year

A new report from DoControl finds that companies are generating approximately 286,000 new SaaS assets, such as files or recordings, each week. However, it also found the public exposure of 35,000 sensitive assets at the average company, a significant lapse in data management and access controls.

The report finds a 182 percent increase in employees sharing company-owned assets via their personal email too. In 2023, findings show that the average company had one out of six employees share data with their personal email account (1.3 million assets).

Attackers exploit email forwarding rules to compromise accounts

Detections for malicious email forwarding rules have risen by nearly 600 percent in 2023, as adversaries compromised email accounts, redirected sensitive communications to archive folders and other places users are unlikely to look, and attempted to modify payroll or wire transfer destinations, re-routing money into the criminal’s account.

This is one of the findings in the latest Threat Detection Report from Red Canary. Half of the threats in top 10 leverage malvertising and/or SEO poisoning, occasionally leading to more serious payloads like ransomware precursors that could lead to a serious attack if not detected.

Over half of companies experienced cybersecurity incidents last year

According to new research from International Data Corporation (IDC) and Exabeam, 57 percent of companies experienced significant security incidents in the last year that needed extra resources to address.

North America experienced the highest rate of security incidents (66 percent), closely followed by Western Europe (65 percent), then Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) (34 percent).
