Google is pushing back against a court decision that forces it to make changes to Android and Google Play, based on Epic Games’ demands. The tech giant argues that these changes could mess with user privacy, make it harder for developers to get their apps noticed, and ultimately hurt competition. While these adjustments might seem like a win for Epic, Google says they could have some serious consequences for American consumers, developers, and smartphone makers.

Google points out that this whole situation doesn’t make sense when compared with another court’s ruling that shot down similar claims Epic made against Apple. The company highlights that, unlike iOS, Android has always been an open platform, letting users pick from multiple app stores and even sideload apps. Google says it’s going to appeal this decision and ask the courts to pause these Epic-led changes while the appeal is in progress.

While Apple has not previously abandoned iPhone users and left them with insecure devices -- in fact, the company has been known to release updates for very old handsets in extraordinary circumstances -- it has never previously committed to any particular period of support.

Copilot+ PCs, coming from Microsoft and a number of hardware partners, are described as the fastest, most advanced AI-driven Windows computers yet. In fact, Microsoft touts Copilot+ as "most significant change to the Windows platform in decades," and says the new PCs embrace AI technology in every aspect, from the ground up.

The AI era is here -- and businesses are starting to capitalize. Britain’s AI market alone is already worth over £21 billion and expected to add £1 trillion of value to the UK economy by 2035. However, the threat of “shadow AI” -- unauthorized AI initiatives within a company -- looms large.

Its predecessor -- “shadow IT” -- has been well understood (albeit not always well managed) for a while now. Employees using personal devices and tools like Dropbox, without the supervision of IT teams, can increase an organization’s attack surface -- without execs or the C-suite ever knowing. Examples of shadow AI include customer service teams deploying chatbots without informing the IT department, unauthorized data analysis, and unsanctioned workflow automation tools (for tasks like document processing or email filtering).

AI has officially taken off, yet organizations are squarely divided on their use in the workplace.  Organizations that encourage the use of AI and Large Language Model (LLM) tools for productivity are willing to accept the security risk but often lack the policies, education, and controls required to mitigate potential security risks, including those posed by insiders.

On the other hand, companies that take a hard line against the tools by implementing strict rules against any installation or use of AI-LLMs may cause their employees to be less productive. Fortunately, there is a middle ground that balances productivity with security and, importantly, with insider risk management.

An APK teardown of Microsoft's Link to Windows app for Android (also known as Phone Link and Your Phone) shows that the company is working to bring a handy feature to handsets -- webcam functionality.

Code shows that Microsoft appears to be working on a feature to rival Apple's Continuity Camera, the feature that makes it possible to use an iPhone as a webcam in conjunction with a Mac. Now it seems that Android users are going to get a similar option under Windows.
