Shhh! How Ford plans to use noise-canceling headphone technology in its cars

New Ford Technology Can Make Your Car Work Like Noise Cancelling Headphones

Noise-canceling headphones do a great job of filtering out unwanted background sounds, such as the rumble of traffic or the chatter of crowds. It’s a clever technology, and one that Ford is set to implement in its vehicles, starting with the all-new Ford Mondeo Vignale.

The car giant’s Active Noise Control tech emits sound waves that cancel out engine, transmission, and wind noise, resulting in a much quieter journey. No need to crank up your music to drown out unwanted external sounds.

Tesla Autopilot: The comprehensive multi-road 33 mile review

tesla autopilot

When Tesla announced Autopilot, a new feature that allows its cars to drive themselves with no input from the driver, ex-Microsoft developer and geek-famous YouTube reviewer Barnacules Nerdgasm (AKA Jerry) decided to put the new tech to the test.

Not even 24 hours after the Autopilot was live, Jerry and his friend drove a Tesla P85D (and its 762+ horse power), on a 33 mile road trip to get familiar with the new technology. This is what he thought of it.

Porsche believes Android Auto collects too much data, opts for CarPlay

Porsche badge

Porsche won’t install Google’s Android Auto system in its future 911 models because the American tech giant is asking for too much personal (or should I say, mechanical) information about the vehicles.

Instead, it will go for Apple’s CarPlay system.

How to confuse a self-driving car using everyday hardware

Google's self-driving car cars fleet Lexus

We've already seen that conventional cars can be vulnerable to attacks by hackers. But it seems that self-driving vehicles may be equally vulnerable.

It's possible to trick a self-driving Google car into stopping or taking evasive action using around $60 worth of hardware according to a leading security researcher.

Elon Musk expects EVs will have 1000km range by 2017

Elon-Musk-profile-800x450_contentfullwidth

I love Elon Musk’s predictions, they’re always so optimistic about the future of the world. The latest such statement regards electric autonomous vehicles, when we might expect them to become more of a mainstream thing, and just how good they will be.

During an interview with a Dutch publication, he said that we can expect electric cars to go 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) or more by 2017 on a single charge. That’s more than double of what such cars achieve today.

Autonomous cars will make safe driving a reality

Man in a self-driving car, no hands on the steering wheel

Given the correct inputs, there are many tasks that robots (or machines or driverless cars) can do much better than people. The keyword here might be "input" however.

In the case of driverless cars, they are using many sensors, cameras and radar to control those inputs, but they are not perfect just yet. In time however, we can expect fewer traffic accidents, due to an autonomous system’s increased reliability and faster reaction time compared to human drivers.

Ford's voice-activated car tech recognizes and responds to local accents

ford sync

Just because you speak the same language as someone else, it doesn’t mean you pronounce your words in the same way. There are so many regional variations of English that it can be difficult for a person born and raised in one area of a country to understand the accent of someone born and raised just a few hundred miles away. I’ve watched TV shows where people speaking perfectly good English have been subtitled because they have a really strong accent that not everyone can follow.

If people struggle to comprehend other people, you can only imagine the problems machines have with these variations. If you’ve ever spent time repeating the same set of words or commands in a variety of accents in an effort to have a piece of software understand and respond to you, you’ll appreciate what I’m saying.

visiontek02

Smartphone battery life has improved over the years, but it is still largely deficient. For many consumers, it is still impossible to make it through a full day without needing a charge.

Luckily, for those of us with cars, we can charge it while traveling. The problem? Most chargers will only accommodate one phone at a time. Yeah, some can handle two, or even three, but what if your family is larger than a trio? Ahh, well, that is where VisionTek's 40W Five Port USB Car Charger comes in. Yes, it offers five USB ports with simultaneous charging. Should you buy it?
