ASUS unveils the ultra-fast RT-AX88U 802.11ax Wi-Fi router

ASUS is among the leading players in the router market, constantly pushing the envelope in terms of performance and design. The latest high-end entry in its lineup is no different. The new RT-AX88U, which is also ASUS' first 802.11ax offering, promises transfer speeds of up 5,962Mbps over Wi-Fi and features sharp edges, massive antennas and gold accents -- just what you would expect out of an ASUS router.
The RT-AX88U is not the only router that ASUS announced today at IFA 2017, as it also unveiled the RT-AC86U. The company specifically mentions gamers as its target market for the latter, with the RT-AC86U packing a built-in accelerator to optimize connections to game servers.
ASUS Chromebook Flip C213 is a convertible for education with Android app support

Chromebooks are great for many scenarios, but they really shine for education. Why? Well, they are often inexpensive, and best of all, they are very secure thanks to the Linux base and restrictive software design. ASUS has a new such laptop called "Chromebook Flip C213." The 11.6-inch notebook is designed to be very rugged so that if a student abuses it, it should hopefully survive. ASUS even promises an impressive 12+ hours of battery life.
This convertible laptop is powered by a 2.4GHz Intel processor and features 4GB of RAM. This should run Chrome OS very well. Besides the traditional camera at the top of the screen, there is an additional camera above the keyboard. When the laptop is folded to a tablet, that second camera becomes a "rear" camera. Cool, right?
ASUS ZenFone 4 Max features dual cameras and a huge battery

If there is one thing that you can expect from a smartphone in the ZenFone Max series it is a seriously large battery. The latest model, the ZenFone 4 Max, is no different, packing a 5,000mAh battery. But it does also have a feature that you might not expect: a dual camera setup.
The ZenFone 4 Max is a pretty interesting proposition in its segment, thanks to its up-to-date internals and massive battery, but the dual camera setup makes it stand out from the crowd. After all, only a handful of devices have one, and they're typically flagships.
ASUS releases affordable XG-C100C 10Gbps PCIe network adapter for Windows and Linux

Do you need a 10Gbps network adapter? I am going to go out on a limb and say no. Many homes only use Ethernet for the internet -- not transferring files between machines on the network. While some businesses could absolutely benefit from the speed, installing such a card in a workstation would be pointless without a 10Gbps network to which it could connect. That's the thing, to get the full speed of such a card, you need a compatible network, which you probably do not have.
I say all of this to highlight that a 10Gbps PCIe network adapter card for consumers is as bit silly right now, but that hasn't stopped ASUS from making one. Today, the company announces the XG-C100C 10Gbps PCIe network adapter for both Windows and Linux. While not the first 10Gbps card, it is surprisingly affordable.
ASUS ZenBook 3 Deluxe Windows 10 laptop now available

Windows laptops are certainly getting more beautiful with every passing year. Elegance used to largely be an Apple-only affair, but that has been changing. Quite frankly, there are countless such notebooks on the market, making choosing one a bit difficult -- a good problem for consumers.
Today, ASUS unveils one of the most beautiful such Windows laptops. Called "ZenBook 3 Deluxe," it is insanely thin at a mere 12.9mm. It is quite light too, at only 2.42 pounds. Despite its svelte body, it is packed with plenty of excellent specs, such as a Kaby Lake Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB PCIe SSD. It has three USB-C ports, one of which is USB 3.0 speed, while the others are 3.1 Gen 2/ Thunderbolt 3. It even leverages biometrics for logging in, with a Windows Hello compatible fingerprint reader on the trackpad.
Before you buy Microsoft Surface Pro, check out the ASUS Transformer Pro T304 Windows 10 PC

The Surface Pro only just went on sale, but you might want to reconsider that purchase. Don't get me wrong, Microsoft's hybrid tablet looks great, but ASUS has a very similar new Windows 10 PC that might be better. Called "Transformer Pro T304," it features the ports that are missing from the Surface Pro, such as HDMI and USB-C -- no dongles needed. Don't worry, there is a USB Type-A port too.
Not only does the Transformer Pro T304 have plenty of ports, but plenty of horsepower too. Regardless of configuration, you get a 7th-generation Core i7-7500U and 12.6-inch display with a 2160x1440 resolution. While the display is slightly larger than Surface Pro, the resolution on the ASUS machine is less -- something to consider. For memory, 8GB is standard, but you can opt for 16GB. The increase in RAM also gets you a storage bump, going from 256GB to 512GB. The superior model also gets Windows 10 Pro rather than Home.
Microsoft shows off new Windows Mixed Reality headsets from Dell, Lenovo, and ASUS

At Build earlier this month, Microsoft announced Windows Mixed Reality dev kits from Acer and HP, and said that new products from other partners would be coming later in the year.
At Computex today, Microsoft revealed future headsets from ASUS, Lenovo, and Dell that are set to go into production soon and bring Mixed Reality to the masses. Each has something different to offer.
ASUS Blue Cave doesn't look like your typical AC2600 Wi-Fi router

I like routers that look the part, but not everyone is fond of the traditional design. A plastic box that lights up and has a bunch of cables and antennas sticking out is not exactly what you might call pretty. However, there are some attractive options out there. ASUS's new Blue Cave, which was just announced today at Computex 2017, is one of them.
Actually, save for the bottom part of the rear panel which houses the ports, I believe that the Blue Cave does not look like a router at all. Yes, it is a big plastic box too, but it has a big hole in the middle and no visible antennas. Looking at it, you might be inclined to believe that it is something else entirely. But, a sleek design is not all that it has, as its specs are pretty attractive as well.
ASUS' new ZenBook Pro features 4K display and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics

At Computex 2017, ASUS just unveiled what is probably the most impressive 15-inch laptop today. It's called the ZenBook Pro and it comes with everything that you can expect in a premium offering in this segment right now.
What are the standout features? Well, there are several, but the 15.6-inch UHD display, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics, and the Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor are likely to impress consumers the most.
ASUS' ZenBook 3 Deluxe is the world's thinnest 14-inch laptop

ASUS announced a whole suite of new products today at Computex 2017, and one of the most interesting to debut is the ZenBook 3 Deluxe, which the company says is the thinnest 14-inch laptop in the world.
This is not the first "world's thinnest" product that ASUS unveiled today, as the company also introduced the world's thinnest two-in-one convertible laptop, called the ZenBook Flip S.
ASUS ZenBook Flip S with NanoEdge is the world's thinnest 2-in-1 convertible laptop

At Computex 2017 in Taiwan today, ASUS unveiled several new devices including the convertible ZenBook Flip S. Measuring just 10.9mm thick, the 2-in-1 is heralded as the thinnest in the world, and, weighing in at just 1.1kg, it's light as well.
The laptop has a 13-inch screen which features a 360-degree ErgoLift hinge which allows for conversion into a tablet. Starting at $1,099, this is a premium offering from ASUS, and the specifications do not disappoint.
ASUS ZenFone AR Android smartphone with Tango and Daydream is a Verizon exclusive

Both augmented and virtual reality show no sign of slowing down -- these are certainly technologies to keep an eye on over the next several years. Microsoft and Google have been very public with their projects, while there are rumors that Apple is secretly working on both AR and VR too.
Google's Tango is one of the most ambitious such projects, bringing augmented reality capabilities to Android devices. Earlier today at Google I/O, ASUS announced that the upcoming ZenFone AR smartphone -- compatible with both Tango and Daydream -- will be a Verizon exclusive.
ASUS ROG unveils Strix Impact wired gaming mouse with RGB lighting and DPI button

When it comes to gaming mice, there are often two schools of thought for design. Some manufacturers go overboard, thinking consumers want flashy-looking mice with tons of features. Other makers go a more conservative route, where the user wants fewer distractions. Neither is wrong -- consumers have different tastes. There is also the wired vs. wireless debate, with many gamers preferring the former for reduced lag and no need for battery charging.
Today, ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) unveils an all-new wired mouse with a more conservative design approach. Called "Strix Impact," the wired gaming mouse is certainly attractive, but it does not look not too funky or childish. The RGB lighting allows the owner to customize the appearance, while a dedicated button lets them change the DPI on the fly. The ambidextrous-friendly mouse is also built to last, with high-quality Omron button switches, which ASUS ROG claims will last for over 50 million clicks!
Valve and game publishers face EU probe for geo-blocking, ASUS for online price-fixing

Valve, the company behind games distribution platform Steam, is being investigated by EU antitrust regulators. Agreements in place between Valve and five game publishers that implement geo-blocking in titles could breach European competition rules.
Valve, alongside Bandai Namco, Capcom, Focus Home, Koch Media and ZeniMax, is under investigation to determine whether the practice of restricting access to games and prices based on location is legal. At the same time the European Commission is launching an investigation into ASUS, Denon & Marantz, Philips and Pioneer for price manipulation.
ASUS takes on Raspberry Pi with its 4K-capable, Kodi-ready Tinker Board

If you love Raspberry Pi, but require a little more power for your projects, then ASUS’s Tinker Board could be just what you’re looking for.
Although there’s no shortage of Raspberry Pi alternatives, the low-cost Tinker Board is better than most because its quad-core 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A17 processor has the oomph to handle 4K video and 24-bit audio, and it comes with twice as much RAM as the latest Pi.
