#BetaNews20 Giveaway: Linksys WRT32XB AC3200 Xbox One wireless gaming router

Here at BetaNews, our 20th birthday cerebration is in full swing. We have several amazing giveaways running, including the Linksys Velop Dual-Band Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System. But what if you don't need or want a mesh networking solution? What if you are a gamer that just wants a single router?
Enter the Linksys WRT32XB. Yes, we are giving away this hardcore Xbox One-optimized gaming router. Don't own Microsoft's gaming console? Don't worry. It will still function perfectly fine as a router for all of your non-gaming needs too. In other words, Xbox or not, you should enter the giveaway, as this router is a beast.
Seagate announces beautiful 2TB 'Game Drive for Xbox SSD'

If you own an Xbox One, you know there are a lot of games available for the console. Hell, there are almost too many from which to choose -- a good problem, I suppose. Let's not forget all the DLC too! I personally feel overwhelmed by the number of games being announced these days, but I digress.
While the Xbox One consoles come with a good amount of drive space (500GB or 1TB), it can fill up very quickly. Thankfully, you can easily expand the storage using an external USB drive. For the best performance, a USB solid state drive is preferable to a mechanical hard drive. Today, Seagate announces the terribly named "Game Drive for Xbox SSD" which is, as you can guess, an external SSD for Xbox One. Of course, it will work with a PC too.
Microsoft removes ability to comment on popular Major Nelson Xbox gaming blog

While there are times when the comments section of a website offers interesting statements from readers, quite often, it is full of vile and vulgar speech instead. We here at BetaNews are lucky -- you guys are rather tame... for the most part. On other websites, such as YouTube, a hardened United States Marine could be made to blush by the horrific comments.
Today, Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) Director of Programming for Xbox Live announces he is turning off the ability to comment on his wildly popular blog. While he doesn't cite cancerous language from readers as being a reason, I wouldn’t he surprised if that didn’t weigh on his decision -- even just a little bit. Surprisingly, he blames a lack of interest.
Microsoft partners with Special Olympics for Xbox gaming tournament

The Special Olympics is a wonderful organization that enables people with intellectual disabilities to compete against each other and win medals. While it promotes health, fitness, and camaraderie, it also highlights that all people deserve the right to compete. It is very inspiring stuff, folks.
Today, Microsoft announces that it has partnered with the Special Olympics for an all-new Xbox gaming tournament. This is not the first time that the Windows-maker has worked with the organization. For this tourney, Microsoft is pairing two players to a team -- one with an intellectual disability and one without. Teams will then face-off by playing Forza Motorsport 7 -- a racing game published by Microsoft Studios.
Linksys WRT32XB dual-band AC3200 Xbox One wireless gaming router now available

If you are a PC gamer, there are many ways to gain an edge -- such as upgrading components and accessories. A new GPU and mouse, for instance, can make a big difference. With console gaming you are much more limited -- you can't upgrade the CPU, GPU, or RAM. Some argue that is a good thing, as it levels the playing field, while others say a lack of upgradeability is a negative.
If you are an Xbox One gamer, however, there is a new piece of hardware that could give you an edge when playing online -- the Linksys WRT32XB 802.11ac wireless router. If you aren't familiar, this is a variant of the company's WRT32X gaming router where the firmware has been optimized for Xbox One (plus PCs using Killer networking). Linksys says it can detect Xbox traffic and reduce peak ping by up to 65 percent, and ultimately, reduce lag. If you are dubious of that claim, please know that Microsoft has certified this router as a part of the "Designed for Xbox" program. Today, the Linksys WRT32XB finally becomes available for purchase.
Microsoft announces 'Inside Xbox' live video stream

Back in the day, Microsoft was definitely not an open company. Quite frankly, its guarded and secretive behavior tended to annoy many consumers. Its closed nature also lended to conspiracy theories -- some folks felt they couldn't trust the seemingly big and scary corporation.
While those feelings still exist a bit (ahem, Windows 10 telemetry), it has largely changed under the leadership of Satya Nadella. The CEO has transformed the company into a much more transparent one. The Windows Insiders program, for instance, was born during his tenure. That program pulled back the curtain and let Windows users peek a bit at how the proverbial sausage was being made. Today, Microsoft announces yet another initiative to be more open with its customers, this time for Xbox.
Giveaway: Win a limited edition Air Jordan III Xbox One X from Microsoft

If you have a new 4K TV, one of the best complementary devices you can buy is the Xbox One X. Not only can it play UHD streaming content, but it supports 4K Blu-ray too -- something the PlayStation 4 lacks. Best of all, Microsoft's newest console variant can handle 4K gaming -- yet another thing Sony's gaming machine fails to do.
Anyone with $500 can score an Xbox One X -- that's a basic move. If you really want to be the envy of your friends, a limited edition version of the console is what you want. Microsoft is currently running a giveaway for some extremely limited Xbox One Machines. You see, to celebrate the Air Jordan 3 sneaker (for whatever reason) the Windows-maker is giving away three unique consoles. There are three styles, but only one of each is being produced. In other words, these Air Jordan Xbox One X consoles are about as rare as they come.
Microsoft loses its damn mind and offers seven months of Groove Music Pass for $10

Microsoft's Groove Music Pass is an exceptional streaming music service. If you spend a lot of time on Windows 10, it is the best music experience on the platform. The app is well designed, and it fits in with the overall Windows 10 motif. It can even be used on Xbox One. Groove offers a really good selection of tunes too -- right up there with its competitors.
Believe it it not, Microsoft's service is cross-platform, also working natively on Android and iOS. The mobile apps are decent, but not fantastic. Fans of macOS and Linux-based desktop operating systems, such as Ubuntu and Chrome OS, can also use the service thanks to the brilliant web-based player. If this all sounds good to you, I have some great news. As part of a Labor Day promotion, Microsoft is offering an insane seven months of the service for the price of just one month. Yes, really.
Microsoft claims, without proof, that Xbox One X pre-order sales are record-breaking

The Xbox One X is an expensive upgrade to the existing Xbox One consoles. It features improved specifications, as well as the ability to run games at 4K with HDR. While the Xbox One S can output 4K, that is only for TV and movies -- not games. With all of that said, you would think that Xbox One X wouldn't be terribly popular since its pricey benefits are only beneficial to some.
Well, if you thought Xbox One X was merely a niche product, you would be wrong, apparently. According to Microsoft, pre-orders for the "X" variant of its gaming console are not only selling very well but breaking records too. It claims that Xbox One X pre-orders have sold faster than ones for both the original Xbox One and Xbox One S.
Razer unveils 'Wolverine Ultimate' wired pro gaming controller for Xbox One and PC

Video games are big business nowadays. Not only are consoles and gaming PCs quite expensive, but so too are the games -- especially when you factor in DLC. Not only that, but hardcore gamers are even spending big bucks on "professional" accessories too, such as mice, keyboards, headsets, and more.
Today, Razer unveils what it calls a professional grade controller for Xbox One and PC. The "Wolverine Ultimate," as it is called, is a wired affair -- there is no wireless to be found. Since it is a gaming product, it even features customizable RGB lighting -- we must put lights in all the things! Of course, as you can expect, the controller is quite expensive. Believe it or not, Wolverine Ultimate costs more than Microsoft's "Wireless Elite" controller.
Xbox One X Project Scorpion Edition now available to pre-order

The Xbox One X will not hit store shelves until November 7, but, as you may know, it is slated to be available for pre-order well ahead of its big release.
And, like expected, pre-orders for the Xbox One X just kicked off. On offer is a special edition of Microsoft's latest and greatest gaming console, which is dubbed Project Scorpio Edition. The price?
Now is the time to buy Microsoft Xbox One S

On November 7, the Xbox One X will become available. Want to know a secret? It plays the same games as Xbox One and Xbox One S. In other words, the $500 "X" console gives a similar experience as the $250 "S" variant. While both can play 4K media, only the X model can display actual games in that resolution, however. If that doesn't matter to you, why spend the extra money? You can use the savings to buy more games!
Today, Microsoft announces a trio of deals that will make buying an Xbox One S even more attractive. Not only can you get the console itself for $249, but you can also score a $50 gift card or free Xbox Wireless Controller. While the promotion also includes the "non-S" variant of the console, that is becoming harder to find, so you should probably stick with the S at this point. Any savings would be negligible anyway.
Seagate Game Drive Hub adds 8TB of storage to Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X

Today is a historic day for gaming, as earlier, Microsoft revealed its newest video game console -- Xbox One X. The latest variant of Xbox is smaller and more powerful than any model before it. It is backwards compatible with all Xbox One titles, and it also works with Microsoft's "Game Pass" subscription service, which offers over 100 downloadable games.
Regardless of which version of the console you have -- Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X -- there is a good chance you might fill the internal hard drive. While 500GB or 1TB seems like a lot, it can fill quickly -- especially with the aforementioned subscription service. Today, Seagate announces a special USB hard drive for Xbox One. Called "Game Drive Hub," it features a 3.5-inch 8TB drive and a front-facing two-port USB hub.
Xbox One X is Microsoft's smallest and most powerful video game console ever

After a long time of hearing the code name "Project Scorpio" for Microsoft's next console, we finally have an official product name -- Xbox One X. The 4K/60-focused gaming system launches on November 7, just in time for the 2017 holiday shopping season. Parents will appreciate the backwards compatibility -- it can run all Xbox One games and works with all existing accessories too. In other words, you don't need to start the library anew.
The Xbox One X has an AMD-designed octa-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, a 6-teraflop Radeon GPU, and 12GB of GDDR5 memory with an impressive 326GB/sec memory bandwidth. For storage, it will come with a 1TB hard drive -- no more 500GB. It once again features a 4K Blu-ray drive too. This new console easily beats the PlayStation 4 Pro, which should give Sony some concern. While the PS4 has many great exclusives, so too will the Xbox One/S/X -- Microsoft announces 22 such games being shown at E3.
Watch here: Microsoft's E3 Xbox briefing about Project Scorpio streams live on Twitch

Microsoft is due to hold a press conference at E3 2017 today. The topic is the future of Xbox, and we should hear more about Project Scorpio, the latest version of the Xbox One which is expected to feature VR and 4K support.
The price of the Xbox One S has just been reduced by $50 as Microsoft has done in the past before the launch of a new version of the console. If you're keen to find out what's new, you can watch the Twitch stream live, here at 5PM ET / 2PM PT / 10PM BST. As well as learning about the specs of the machine, we may also have the rumored price of $499 confirmed.
