Instagram under Elon Musk's control as part of X, the 'everything app'? This is how it could work

The rivalry between tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is hard to miss. There was, for a while, talk of the two men having a cage fight -- although that predictably came to nothing -- and  Zuckerberg's Meta recently introduced its "Twitter killer" app, Threads, after perceiving weakness in Musk's own social media platform (now called X).

While Threads hasn't been quite the huge hit that Meta was hoping for (just yet at least), it has clearly had some impact on X. You should never bet against Elon Musk though. If you've ever wondered what Meta's Instagram might look like if Musk took over that as part of X's expansion of the "everything app", we have the answer.

Take a sneaky break from work by running a fake Windows or macOS update

Taking a nap at work

Working hard is a good thing, but sometimes you want to have a rest and recharge, and there's only so many trips to the toilet or the break room you can get away with in a day.

Luckily, there's a sneaky trick you can use to take a break at your desk without anyone minding, and that's to make it look as if your PC is running a particularly slow operating system update. We've all been there, right? The good news is you can use this with any OS version and not only that, but if you're feeling particularly evil, you can make it appear as if you've been hit by ransomware.

Windows 12 is everything Windows 11 should be

For the most part, Windows 11 is a decent operating system, but it's not without its issues. It seems that every new update Microsoft releases these days brings new frustrations, and it's no surprise that the vast majority of users are preferring to stick with Windows 10 -- for now.

Although Windows 11 is still pretty new, talk of its successor, Windows 12, has been bubbling in the background for a few months now and if you were wondering how it might look when released, we have the answer.

Windows 8 2023 Edition could be the perfect Microsoft operating system

Windows 8 2023 Edition

In 2012, Microsoft introduced Windows 8, an operating system conceived as a response to the rise of mobile computing and the increasing popularity of tablets and smartphones. The aim was to provide a unified operating system that would offer a seamless experience across devices, with a focus on touch-based interactions.

It flopped badly, and will forever be remembered as an ambitious but flawed attempt to redefine the user experience in the age of portable computing. But what if it was simply ahead of its time? If you’ve wondered what the tiled OS might look like if it was released today, Windows 8 2023 Edition is the answer.

Forget all the talk about Windows 12, could Windows 11.1 Pro win you over?

Although Windows 11 hasn’t been out that long -- it was only released towards the end of 2021 -- there is already a lot of talk about its successor, presumed to be called Windows 12 (although you never know with Microsoft). If you want to find out what to expect from that OS, you can read about it here.

But even if Microsoft is planning Windows 12, it won’t be out for at least a year or two, and that leaves plenty of time for the company to turn Windows 11 into a raging success. Could Windows 11.1 be the answer?

Hey, Apple, this is the iOS 17 we need

As a long-time iPhone user, I both really like and appreciate iOS. Apple updates its mobile operating system yearly, adding new features and improving elements. With iOS 16, released six months ago, Apple introduced a reimagined lock screen, improved how notifications are presented, and enhanced Messages.

Later this year, Apple will take the wraps off iOS 17, and it will be interesting to see how that shapes up. If you were wondering how it might look, we have the answer.

Windows 11X: The dream upgrade your PC needs

Although Windows 11 has a lot to recommend it, it does feel rather unfinished, and it’s a situation which isn’t helped by a never-ending stream of problematic updates -- no wonder people are already talking about its potential successor, Windows 12.

But maybe we don’t need to make a full version leap just yet, perhaps the problems with the new OS could be solved with a bit of thought and attention.

Windows Vienna is the new version of Windows Vista you didn't know you needed (install it now!)

Windows Vista doesn’t get the same degree of love as other versions of Microsoft’s operating system. People have an enduring fondness for Windows XP and Windows 7, but not so much for Vista. Part of the problem is although Vista had much to recommend it, the OS always felt unfinished.

If you’re one of those people who actually loved Vista and miss it, then Windows Vienna is for you. After nearly five years of development, the new OS has been completed and is ready to download and install -- for free.

Adaptive wallpapers could bring the Windows 12 desktop to life

Although Windows 10 is the leading desktop operating system by some way, Microsoft will be praying that Windows 11 starts to gain more users throughout 2023.

While the new OS does have some features that set it apart from its predecessor, most notably a centered taskbar, for many users the differences don’t go for enough, and they’ll be hoping that Windows 12 will step things up significantly.

Forget buggy Windows 11, Windows 12 is the operating system we want

Windows 11 is a good operating system, for the most part, but it’s not without its problems. It seems every new update Microsoft rolls out these days introduces fresh annoyances. No wonder the vast majority of users are sticking with Windows 10.

Although Windows 11 has only been out for just over a year, talk of its successor, Windows 12, has been bubbling in the background for a few months now and if you were wondering how it might look when released, we have the answer.

Windows 12 is the 'most refined Windows ever' and everything Windows 11 should be

Although Windows 11 has been out for over a year, and we’ve already received the first 'moment' (feature update) for it, Windows 11 2022 Update (22H2), it really isn’t doing as well as it could be, and there is already talk of its successor, Windows 12.

What does Microsoft need to do to make its next OS more appealing? Bringing back some of the features missing from Windows 10 would be a start, but there are plenty of other modern ideas.

Windows 11 vs. Windows 10 -- which is fastest? We have an answer

Windows 10 v Windows 11

Microsoft is currently supporting both Windows 10 and Windows 11, even though it would prefer you to switch to the latter. Windows 10 is the most popular desktop operating system by some margin, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best one.

One thing that people are definitely swayed by is speed and gaming performance, and if you’re wondering which of the two operating system is fastest, we have the answer.

Windows 23 (2023) could be the perfect Microsoft operating system

Windows 23 Desktop

Microsoft recently began rolling out the Windows 11 2022 Update, which makes the current operating system a lot more useful.

That doesn’t mean that people aren’t looking to the future, and what comes next for Windows. Late last year we heard that the software giant was already beginning work on Windows 11’s successor and if you were wondering how it might look, we have the answer.
