US roll-out of Samsung Bixby delayed as the virtual assistant struggles with English

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 was slightly marred by the absence of the promised virtual assistant, Bixby. We may now be in June, but it looks like it's still going to be a few weeks until Samsung's assistant arrives in the US. The problem? It's having trouble understanding English syntax and grammar.
So far Bixby has emerged with Korean support, but the Wall Street Journal reports that the English-language version is still weeks away from completion. The news comes from "people familiar with the matter," but Samsung has responded to the claims, adding weight to their veracity.
OnePlus 5 will be 'the thinnest flagship phone' says CEO

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has just let a little more slip about the upcoming OnePlus 5. According to a Weibo post by the company founder, the OnePlus 5 will be "the thinnest flagship phone" when it launches later this summer. Importantly, Lau says that the thinness does not mean compromises have been made.
There have been all manner of leaks and rumors about the latest version of the so-called "flagship killer," but this comes straight from the horse's mouth. OnePlus has started a teaser campaign for the smartphone, inviting social media users to guess which of two photographs was shot on the OnePlus 5. While thin on detail, the latest teaser from the CEO is one of some limited pieces of information to be announced by the company itself.
OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 will get Android O

OnePlus has been great when it comes to supporting the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3. The company has released a ton of software updates for the two flagships, including an upgrade to Android 7 Nougat. But it will not be long before Google takes the wraps off Android O, so what can users expect?
First of all, we do not know exactly when Android O will be introduced, but it is likely that Google will stick to a late-summer/early-fall release schedule. But the good news is that OnePlus will update the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 to Android O.
Essential Phone is a new flagship from the creator of Android

Smartphones have come a long way since Apple introduced the first iPhone, but there are people who believe that all the advancements that we've seen in recent years are not enough. Andy Rubin, who created Android, is one of them, which is why he has come up with an interesting new design for his new company's first smartphone.
It's called the Essential Phone and it has everything you could want in a flagship smartphone today in a package that comes in at just under $700. But is it all that different to the typical flagship?
LG will not ship its future flagship with an outdated processor anymore

When it comes to Android flagships, specs matter. Consumers love to compare the processors, displays, RAM, storage and other important features when assessing the platform's high-end devices, which is why manufacturers cannot afford to fall behind their competitors.
LG has ignored this, as for the past couple of years it has released flagships with outdated processors. The G6, for instance, ships with last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, even though there's the Snapdragon 835 available. And, judging by the sales figures, consumers have penalized the company. However, that practice will end with its next flagship.
Win: How to get your hands on a OnePlus 5 early

We still don't even know when the OnePlus 5 will be released, but the company is already in full-on marketing mode for the next version of its flagship killer. We've only just seen a sample photo from the OnePlus 5, and now keen photographers are being offered the opportunity to get their hands on the smartphone early.
This is not an early buying option for snap-happy Android fans, but a competition which will ultimately see ten people getting their hands on a OnePlus 5 for free.
OnePlus 5 photography sample sparks a mixed reaction

OnePlus continues to drip-feed us snippets of information about its upcoming OnePlus 5. We've already learned that the company has teamed up with DxO to improve the photography side of things, and now we have been treated to the first official sample photo shot on a OnePlus 5.
On both Facebook and Twitter, OnePlus shared a split-screen photograph, one side taken on an unknown camera, the other on the OnePlus 5. The company asked, "Can you tell which photo was taken with the OnePlus 5?" -- and the reaction was rather mixed.
Huawei Honor 8: Impressive, but lacks appeal [Review]

The Honor 8 Pro is the latest premium smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, best known as an offshoot of tech titan Huawei.
The company has grown hugely in the past few years as it looks to offer customers an alternative to the typical Apple or Samsung handsets, offering powerful hardware at a more affordable price.
OnePlus launches referral program so you can get money off a OnePlus 5 and accessories

We know that the OnePlus 3T is being discontinued as the launch of the OnePlus 5 is just around the corner. Ahead of the launch, the company behind the "flagship killer" has unveiled a referral program that lets its customers earn points to get money off phones and accessories.
The referral program is open to "anyone who's ever bought a OnePlus smartphone past, present, or future." You just need to apply for your unique referral code, and then encourage people to use it to make their OnePlus purchases to earn you points and money off.
Consumers expect mobile devices to transform

When Microsoft says we'll be holding much more than a mere smartphone in our palms in a few years, they weren't exaggerating. A new Gemalto survey says that by 2025, consumers expect mobile devices to become much more than what they are today.
They expect the mobile device to be their ID tool, maybe even their passport. They expect the device to autonomously control their home, they expect to use it as a payment tool, and as a banking device, as well.
It's your last chance to get a OnePlus 3T

There is no denying that the OnePlus 3T is still a very good high-end smartphone. But, since it will soon be replaced by the OnePlus 5, which rocks some amazing hardware and, hopefully, just as an attractive price tag as before, the current flagship killer will not be available for much longer.
In fact, OnePlus has announced that there is limited stock left, so, if you are considering buying a OnePlus 3T, now is your last chance to get one.
Xiaomi's new Mi Max 2 packs a 6.44-inch display and 5,300mAh battery

A year after announcing the original Mi Max, Xiaomi unveiled its successor, the Mi Max 2. The phablet comes with the same major selling points as before, namely a huge screen and a massive battery.
The Mi Max 2 is a mid-range smartphone with a 6.44-inch display, which puts it closer to a small tablet than the average phablet, and a resolution of 1,080 by 1,920. The battery is a 6,300mAh unit, that is non-removable, with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
OnePlus 5 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and front fingerprint sensor

OnePlus is slowly releasing more information about its upcoming flagship killer, the OnePlus 5. After teasing the possible color options, the Chinese maker now reveals the processor that powers it and the location of the fingerprint sensor.
As you might expect, the OnePlus 5 will come with a Snapdragon 835, which is the latest and greatest processor from Qualcomm. This chip is also used by the Samsung Galaxy S8 and HTC U11, among other flagships.
OnePlus 5 may be available in four color options

As we are getting closer to the launch of the eagerly-awaited OnePlus 5, we are learning more things about the upcoming flagship killer. We know its name, when it will be released, and what sort of improvements we can expect to see in the camera department.
And now, thanks to a new teaser posted by OnePlus on Twitter, we also have a pretty good idea about the color options that could be available for the OnePlus 5 and how many there will be.
Samsung's Galaxy S8 iris scanner is easily defeatable

If you want to secure your Samsung Galaxy S8, relying on the iris scanner to keep it locked is not the best idea. That's because it can be easily fooled using just a printed photo and a contact lens.
This reinforces the belief that biometric authentication is -- at least for now -- less secure than traditional options, like PINs and passwords, which have the advantage of not being tied to a physical trait that can be easily exploited by hackers, thieves or the authorities.
